BY FAR most of your time ends up getting dedicated to arranging amenities... you need food and drinks, tons of accessible water, bathrooms, wristbands, ID checks, security, cleanup, and logistical stuff like hiring people, financial projections, accounting, advertising, branding, social media ninja skills, every stupid little thing that venues already have figured out and in place for you. Any part of this list that other people can take off your hands is worth it.
You're pretty much guaranteed to lose money until you've thrown at least a small handful of pop-up events where you and your team are responsible for all of this new problem solving. This is also exactly why the price of renting out a club for a show is usually set at the exact mark that they know you'll barely break even... until you prove to them that you're worth their while.
