Outdoor festivals are a huge pain in all ways. But fun.

Prepare to rent LOTS of these http://www.glenstents.com/images/barricades.jpg

yah make sure you have a canopy for the DJ set up. keep it in the shade and safe from smaller rain showers. i also keep a roll of trash bags nearby to cover stuff for short periods if needed.

playing outside is the absolute best way to play imho. it just feels amazing....

Pop up venues are the absolute hardest types of shows to throw & organize. You start by hiring the local production company that surely does every other festival in the area... there's usually only one or two per big city area. You're not gonna DIY a stage and sound system with a squad of mighty droogs, you're just not.

BY FAR most of your time ends up getting dedicated to arranging amenities... you need food and drinks, tons of accessible water, bathrooms, wristbands, ID checks, security, cleanup, and logistical stuff like hiring people, financial projections, accounting, advertising, branding, social media ninja skills, every stupid little thing that venues already have figured out and in place for you. Any part of this list that other people can take off your hands is worth it.

You're pretty much guaranteed to lose money until you've thrown at least a small handful of pop-up events where you and your team are responsible for all of this new problem solving. This is also exactly why the price of renting out a club for a show is usually set at the exact mark that they know you'll barely break even... until you prove to them that you're worth their while.

In all Honesty, you're much better off renting a park pavillion, inviting 20 close friends, bring a small PA setup.

Then just grill out, play some tunes and dance.

Myself and mate done a pop-up yesterday and blew xzone 92. Smoke came out. It didn't blow any fuse or the power surge. Been doing them for years with no issue
