Hello fellow DJTechTool'ers...
I have been buying Dj gear for some time now on DJTechTools, DjForums, Craigslist, Kijiji, Ebay, and I have never had a problem doing so... until now.
Long story short, I bought a used VCI-380 (pretty much the best & most flexible 2 channel, backpack portable Serato DJ controller) which was described as in Great Working Condition as I've been wanting to get back into the DJ scene. When it arrived I unboxed it and noticed 2 things:
1) The wrong power adapter was sent
2) The crossfader was "sticky" / and the faceplate had some crossfader damage marks.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to test the unit at that time due to the power adapter not feeding enough power to the unit to make it usable. I notified the seller of this with the following message:
"Hi,
I received the vci last night. however, when testing it, I wasn't able to use it due to the fact that the power adapter you sent was not the correct one (at least I hope that's the issue). I can send a video where I can show this.
I would also like to mention that the crossfader is very sticky to the point of being almost unusable. The cross fader is deffinitley not in great working order either. Now, going over what was missing, I have found out that the Power adapter costs about $25 to replace, and the cross fader goes anywhere from $75 to $150.
What to you suggest doing? Do you want me to ship this back to you? can i get a partial refund to replace what doesn't work?
Please advise as I do not want to open a case. Perhaps the crossfader was bent during shipping? Did you insure it? Please let me know."
The seller asked me to send him pictures of the fader damage (Luckily, I did an unboxing Video, documenting everything), which I sent him. I also bought a power adapter online, and received it a couple days days later.
Tested the unit, and everything worked perfectly except the crossfader. In total, I sent 3 videos to the owner documenting this, and asking if I could get a partial refund of $75 so that I could be compensated to a) replace the power adapter and b) replace the crossfader.

After 6 days since receiving the unit and opening a case, I was answered 5 days later with this:
I would not refund you because nothing is wrong with the item. You are mishandling it and I won't pay for unnecessary upgrades. Mail it back in the condition I sent it for a full refund if you like and in any case, please do not bid on my items again or publish my personal information online in video format, this is a breach of privacy and you don't have my permission to do so. Thanks.
How did I mishandle the VCI???
I have a feeling that he sent me a damaged unit and because I documented it so well, he is trying to minimize his loss instead of making me take up the loss... However, giving him the benefit of the doubt, the seller has 100% feedback on over 142 transactions... so could've it been damaged while shipped? After all, it was only shipped with hard brown paper...
I am planning on answering his request with the following:
Hi, I will gladly mail it back to you. However, instead of ACCUSING me of "Mishandling" the item you sent me, Why have you NOT replied the following Questions?:
1) Why was the Wrong Power Adapter sent to me?
2) Did the Vestax VCI-380 Have the crossfader damage BEFORE You sent it to me?
3) Do You Realize that the problem was REVEALED the moment I did the UNBOXING? There's a reason why I do this type of unboxing Videos. To protect Myself, and prove that I haven't Mishandled anything.
4) Why have you Not answered anything about the Shipping Insurance? Assuming the item was damaged in transit (unless it was sent to me like that), why aren't you looking into it? The insurance could cover the amount I am asking for to replace BOTH the Power adapter and the Crossfader, which are things I had NOTHING to do with.
5) Do you realize you will receive a unit with a sticky, useless crossfader?
What are your thoughts, any advice? I honestly don't wanna shell out $30 to ship the unit back for something that I did Not Do, especially considering that I could get a new cross fader for about 90, or be lucky to get a used inno for $70ish...
