Default How Do You Organize Your Music?

    Hey Fellow DJ's

I hope this post finds you well. I need some feedback. The more I grow my music collection, the more I am realizing I need to keep it better organized. Right now, it is all in a folder titled "Music Database 2". I am kind of lost as to how to organize it further. Should I make sub-folders for different genere's, and organize it that way, as opposed to just having all of my songs in one folder? How do you organize your music?

    I use a Traktor S4, FYI.

    Thank you in advance!

    DJ Ash Lee

You could start organizing your music in playlists either in itunes or traktor or whatever you use. Or you start sorting your music on you system. Either in genres, date, etc. This is up to you. All i can say is, that you should find some way to sort your music before your collection is to big. How you sort your music is what fits you the best.

There should be some helpful articles:

For file organization, every tune is organzied in folders in the following manner
    Date Purchased/Added > Genre

    In DJ Software
Genre Folder > Year Added Folder > Sub Genre Playlist
with the comment and genre tags being used to describe the emotion (two sub genres) of each tune.
    - Equipment - 2X Technics 1200, 2X Audio Technica ATLP1240, 2X XDJ700, 2X XDJ1000 MK2, Denon DNX-1100, Mixars DUO, DJM750 MK2, NI Audio 10, NI Aduio 4, Serato SL3, 4X Shure M44-7, 2X Ortofon Pro S, 2X Numark Groove Tool, Maschine MK3, Samson Carbon 49, Roland SE-02, Novation Launchcontrol, TouchOSC, Nocation Peak, Arturia MiniBrute, Korg Volca Kick, MicroKorg (Classic), NI Komplete Audio 6

I find smart playlists so unreliable.

They can’t be unreliable. That’s the whole point.

They’re dumb. They’ll only do what you tell ‘em to do. They’ll only fuck up if your tags have got typos or inconsistencies in ‘em.

I use itunes for all my non-edm music (I am a mobile DJ) with beatunes. I reviewed that here.

For my EDM stuff I have separated by mix. I have a folder of tracks that have not found a home in a mix folder and use that to pull from. I move the files from that folder into a mix folder so I can make sure I do not use it again. I have 3 podcasts and do an occasional mix so that makes the most sense to me.
