Default I need advice on TRAVEL DJ CONTROLLER GEAR!

    Hi!!

I booked a few gigs in Europe in Late June that I have to bring my own DJ controller gear and I am trying to DOWNSIZE my set up as modular units to fit in a small carry on.

I own and use the Pioneer DDJSX3 - so - ideally the set up I decide on will work like this but come in 2-3 smaller pieces that I can use together. (I own the DDJSB3 but it's still TOO BIG to travel with for 2 weeks)

SO - I just ordered the DJ2GO2: https://www.numark.com/product/dj2go2 but of course it's the perfect size, but EXTREMELY LIMITING in terms of functions (no filters, no FX)

WHAT I AM CURIOUS ABOUT IS IF I ALSO BUY A PIONEER DDJ-SP1 https://www.pioneerdj.com/en-us/prod...lack/overview/ IF I CAN USE THIS TOGETHER WITH THE DJ2GO2

Any feedback is very welcome as I only have another week to get this set up finalized!!!

    THANK YOU!!

    - DJ Celeste

It looks like you are looking for a travel Serato setup. Have you looked at the Akai AMX? Works with Serato Pro unlike the DJ2GO2. I pair this with Traktor X1 or ipad (mini) w/ Serato Remote.

There's also the AFX to go with it.

    Reloop Mixtour as well.

To answer your question, yes you can use that Pioneer effects unit together with the controller, at least in Traktor and probably in Serato as well. I'm about to travel for a month and a half so I bought the Numark but a step up from yours - I think it's called PartyMix. It's crap but I just plan to use it for working out ideas, and it has a sound card in it if I want to try to rock a party with it. I only played with it for a minute but there is bad resolution on the pitch, so it's no good if you like to beat match. I would definitely not perform with the DJ2GO2, but it's so compact I kind of wish I'd bought that instead of the partymix. We'll see how it goes; I leave tomorrow

For your purposes tho I second the Akai recommendation - I was going to get one of those but they didn't have it at Guitar Center when I looked, and it's a bit pricier than what I wound up with. But for actual performance (not just dicking around on the train, which is what I'm doing), the AMX+AFX is probably a great choice, or you could do AMX + that pioneer unit.

I'm a traktor guy. I've chosen my gear with travel in mind too.
For minimal use I have the X1mk2 and a AUDIO 2. That is the smallest you can go, and still got a lot of functionality.
I also have a Z1, if the club does not have a good main mixer.
If the club has a DJM 900, 850,750,2000 and so on.. that is the best deal! you don't need the AUDIO 2 and use the mixers audio card directly! best sound quality.
Also, a lot of CDJs are compatible with traktor so, in many clubs I just take my X1, and my laptop. And I can play with the mixer and CDJs in HID mode together with my X1. So that is the minimal travel setup, with the best combination of what you have in the club.
I also have a F1, if I want to get more creative..

To play at home, I've converted some old CDJ800 to MIDI controllers, and I connect them together with my X1mk2 and F1 to my DJM850

Personally I'd go with an all-in-one VCI-100Mk2 or 380 which are pretty dang small and easy to travel with.

If you really want a modular rig, an Akai AMX and maybe a couple of Behringer PL-1's ?

The AMX goes for as low as $150 brand new on eBay and the PL-1's are around $60 each (and are quite light for traveling with).

I basically choose traktor because of stewe’s AMX mapping, which i later extended significantly

With a SINGLE device you control all TP3 functions. No Z1+X1 combo for me.
