Default USB 3 hubs vs USB 2 hubs

Is there any difference between the USB 2 and USB 3 spec regarding what current they can offer connected devices? Basically, can a unpowered USB 3 hub offer enough juice compared to a powered USB 2 hub?

Not really. If you need powered, you need powered, and it's never a bad thing.

I'm under the impression USB 3.1 can provide more power specifically to charge devices that need it, but I'm pretty sure they require external power to do it.

USB 2 provides 500MA, while USB 3/3.1 provides 900MA. The charging stream is the same for both at 1.5A - 2A. You will still need a powered hub for multiple devices which require USB power. The limitation is not from the format, but from splitting the power and energy delivery among multiple ports at once.

    Hi,

For me, the difference is huge. The point-to-point routing characteristics of USB 3.0 give a greater flexibility to put the less active or inactive devices into the reduced power states.
