Default Plugging in speakers with XLR cables

Hey everyone, I had a question about plugging speakers into my controller. I have always plugged the left output XLR cable into my left speaker and the right output XLR into the right speaker and hit play. My buddy told me that I will get better sound if I plug both of the cords into one speaker, and then use two more cords to output from that speaker into the other one. Is this true, or am I fine just using the two cords that I have?

    Thanks,

    Matt

Your buddy is an idiot. One cable per active speaker mate.
