Pretty straightforward article.
My opinion:

  1. For the budget constrained, a windows laptop with good specs can run like $600-$800, and if taken care of can last years. (I’m currently going into my 3rd year of my HP Probook 4540s, use it for regular life, school, production and semi-regular gigging).

  2. Other headphones I’d recommend are Audio Technica ATH-M50 and Sennheiser HD 558

  3. Nothing much to add.

  4. A Push is a very expensive controller for just starting out in production. One could easily get by with a old model MPD series Akai controller, other Akai controllers and even the new Novation Launchpad Pro are very good alternatives that aren’t too expensive.

I’d argue that a Novation Circuit would be an excellent introduction to producing.

Is a beginner going to know what to do with that?

I think all you need to start with is decent phones, a DAW and if you want a cheap set of midi keys! Monitors make a big difference when it comes to mixing, admittedly.

It’s easier to use than a DAW.
