808s!
Sup DJTech world I’ve been making trap music lately and using NI’s Massive to make my 808s. I was wondering if any of you have tips on how to make your 808’s really bang. Also I’m using FL Studio 9 Producer Edition. Thanks!

Lay in some sine, layer, compress
I’ve already layered and compressed but no pure sine thanks man!
I can’t exactly tell if that’s a “no thanks, not my taste” or a “I haven’t tried that yet”. Assuming the latter, there’s a lot of info on gearslutz and elsewhere. Here’s the first link google pulled: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-electronic-music-production/500268-ok-layering-sub-tone-punchy-kick.html
haha yeah i meant i haven’t tried but ill check this out man thanks
Found something that really helped thanks again man
Any time
Layering a pure sine is pointless. There is no dynamics in a pure sine, level is always constant. Plus there are no harmonics. Use volume fader.
If you’re layering a pure sine its kind of like creating a sub bass for your kick i guess, which gives it more depth and “boom.” I’ve started doing this to my kicks except i dont use a sine wave, i take a bassy kick sound and roll off everything outside 30-100 and literally treat it like i would a sub bass. I’ve been liking the results, really fills out the sound.
Not sure if thats what he wants, or if he literally wants “bang” i.e. punch, then he needs a top kick or something with more high end.
get some 808 samples and go from there..?
In massive I like to use a sine wave, put an envelope on the pitch to give it some attack, add some a little classic tube and eq to taste. Sometimes if it doesn’t punch quite enough I will layer another punchier kick and cut the lows on it.
I used to use 808 samples but i prefer to use synths to make them now. You def have more control over your 808 when you make it yourself.
That’s pretty much how i make mine but i dont put any distortion on it i’ll try that out now
