Hey Guys,
Haven’t been on here in a while and am considering buying a cheap second hand macbook standard, simply for running Traktor and my iTunes stuff.
I currently use a super quick toshiba satellite, but the only thing is that when running Traktor and using Fader FX, this software sometimes stops working and goes all glitchy.
Also, by using a macbook for djing only i can remove my music collection from my PC, therefore optimising performance.
Well i bought a refurbished 13.3, 2.4ghz, 2GB Ram, 250GB HD Macbook White on ebay for £625, which is a bargain in my opinion, and it serves me fine - i even run logic and no problems even when bouncing or using multiple VSTs.
Depends, when i removed like 175GB of Music, samples, loops, plugins, recorded mixes and all my video to my external, there was definitely a performance jump…
Whoa! You take all that to a gig?! I have like 3 sets 2 hours each and feel it’s overkill for a gig. How you use all that?
Back on topic, my black MacBook was bought used about 2 years ago for $585 and has performed rock solid. That MacBook has a 2.4GHz C2D and 2GB of RAM. On Apples website the new MacBook Pro with 2.4GHz and 4GB RAM is $1200 and still a 13" screen. If I want to upgrade to 4GB I’ll get this RAM:
The differences are not worth the other $500 for a DJ setup. I think the Apple tax for new devices is too great and that getting used devices for already great hardware is great business. Oh and having this on Dualboot with Windows 7 64Bit pretty much makes all other non-Mac laptops kinda useless.
I got a Toshiba Satellite too!!! Inbox me i’ll tell u a few things i did to optimise performance.
Im in the same boat as u actually…but im gona hold out and get a mac first hand from the apple store…for the extra money its worth it…
Ooo bit of advice…go into the mac store itself and tell them you want a mac…i went in a spoke to a guy who was so helpful (he turned out to be an upcoming dj and producer so was great to chat to) He ended up sortin me out with the best deal including a new macbook pro, apple care and a years worth of unlimited music production 1 on 1s with their Apple Specialist who is also a massive producer…All for £975. I would never of got that if i went on the website for example…nothing beats literally going into a store.
So when i have the money im going straight back to get that deal.
Trust me man go in a store and see what they can do.
