Ableton Live Routing, Dummy Clips and Dub Effects

A nifty routing trick for Ableton Live users, allowing you to decide whether a track is sent through your Dummy clips or straight to an output (like to the Master track) just by altering Send amounts. Sounds simple enough, but think again…

This really opens up the possibility of using effects racks in Live the same way that Traktor does, by “turning on” the effects and piping audio through them, except now you have automated effects selectable as presets, and as many banks of setups as you care to construct.

God bless The Covert Operators. I’m really tempted to subscribe to their tutorials database. See also this tutorial about digital feedback - actually routing tracks back into each other to create a feedback loop, showing how to make endless looping “sound spaces” that are shapeable in realtime. Drop a sound in there and it stays around constantly morphing.

Dammit, I was in my secret labs working up something similar.

Will have more progress in my BCR thread as I have done some more research.
