If you get FL Studio and watch this guys videos on YouTube it will really speed your learning process:
So - I can’t push myself to purchase FL Studio without having tried it and testing out other DAWs. I know that’s the smartest thing to do, but I definitely do want to take advantage of the price cut and to have it now! But, I’m sure it’ll go on sale again. Perhaps Christmas? Lol.
What you really should do is watch videos/read/try it out thoroughly with the following in mind:
-What components do I need for my genre of music?
-What components do I need open at the same time in all the different sessions?
-How does this DAW display all the features I actually use?
-Is there any room to customize this experience later on?
-What specs does my computer need to have for this to work on the best it can?
Something like that. And also in an order similar to this one.
But you should write down your own priorities. Although, if you’re starting, fl does have infinity tutorials to start on.
There is a reason why people start on it, it’s intuitive for those who have no experience in production.
Sometimes I feel people decide on DAWs based on peer pressure and what their favorite artists use, rather than what their workflow really is.
another vote for try before you buy.
You can add Spor/Feed Me as another FL Studio user, but he may have switched.
My personal opinion is I use Ableton Live. I think the interface is less cluttered. For me Ableton Live was easier to learn than FL. FL Studio is great, cheap, you make good music in it, lifetime updates, but serial is non-transferable. So once you buy it, it’s yours. that’s my .02
Thanks everybody who has responded to this. You have all really helped me out! ![]()
I’ll be trying a bunch of demos before I buy.
I used FLStudio back when it was Fruity Loops, switched to Reaper when I got into more conventional recording work. Now I’m running a Mac, I still use Reaper for recording bands but it’s not very intuitive for composing electronic music imo. Sigh, time to try bootcamp…
I enjoy hearing all of these personal stories, so keep them coming if you’ve got them! They do help a lot!
Or on black friday already. So you now didn’t buy and try some DAWs first before making the decision to buy one if I understood correctly?!
I personally own Ableton Live and Studio One. At the moment I mostly use Ableton Live as I’ve not yet found the time to dig into Studio One’s workflow. Ableton Live is great and fast.
Don’t be impressed by “XY’ uses this or that DAW”. The DAW does not make your music. It’s the person sitting in front of the computer. I’m sure you’ll be able to produce the earthshaking no.1 hit with every DAW out there. They just differ in terms of workflow, GUI and the number of plugins being included. But the basic stuff will be delivered with every DAW.
After that, you’ll start out buying sample packs, software synthesizer and other plugins and begin with building your own signature sound. This is what matters!![]()
Correct. I’ll be testing demos until I can find the one that works best for me. Hearing everyone’s experiences have really helped.
I’m just definitely the type of person that sees something and wants it, especially since it was 40% off! ![]()
I’m a PC user (let the tomato throwing commence), and have used FL Studio and Ableton Live. I personally use Ableton Live, and so do many others. I actually don’t the mind the interface of both Live and FL Studio, but the only problem I had with FL Studio (a few years back, though) is the CPU usage versus that of Live. I felt like I quickly peaked my CPU while using FL Studio causing horrible playback.
Please take this as an opinion/experience. I did really enjoy producing in FL Studio (as I do Live), but CPU peaking did it for me.
ableton or FL Studio the big question…
I find a article in spanish… maybe can be useful for someone.. Fl Studio vs ableton
both are good
sinceramente creo que ambos son buenos, siempre depende de el talento y conocimiento que tengas como profesional, he estado usando este desde mis inicios.
Ableton wins
In my opinion Ableton takes this battle. It has a simple interface, all lined up on one screen, making the workflow much faster. The design is more professional and beautiful, all the add-ons have the same color and design.
The following article explains a little more about this choice: Ableton vs FL Studio
