Ableton's Limiter

Ableton’s Limiter

When I use Ableton to edit my tracks sometimes they go over 0db and I was told that I should use the Limiter to deal with this short spaces where the volume goes over zero.

Is that correct? Will I lose audio quality for using the limiter, or it’s barely inaudible? Is there a better way to deal with this volume going higher than zero?

VOLUME AUTOMATION.
PROPER MIXING/EQ’ING.

Turn loud stuff down.

But, at the end of the day, if it sounds fine, leave it.

^^What Patch said.

Reduce the levels of your tracks instead of using a limiter.

If you still want to use a limiter make sure the gain reduction is minimal (<3 dB). Remember, you’re working with audio that already has been heavily compressed/limited, additional limiting will inevitably lead to a degradation in sound.
