Akai Professional APC Mini help

Hi all, new to the site and DJing in general. I have a question that I hope someone would be able to help me out with. I recently got a AKAI Professional APC mini and I’m running it in Ableton live 9.1.3. When I first started using it out of the box I was able to take a sound like a marimba or piano and play it on my pads on the mini and it was awesome. However, a couple minutes later I was unable to figure out how to do this again. Basically the pad would let me play different notes of the sound. I was wondering if any of you can help me figure this out? I’m new to ableton and the pad so I apologize for the lack of knowledge! Thanks for help

I think I recall seeing that there was some sort of “note mode” specific to the APC mini. Try downloading the manual and searching for “note mode” or something like that. You can probably switch between the regular clip triggering mode and this other note mode.
