Alternatives to deadmau5?

Alternatives to deadmau5?

Wuzzu,
I know this is gonna firmly remove me from the “music aficionado” compartment but…

I really love deadmau5’ stuff, especially The Reward Is Cheese, Ghosts N Stuff, Hey Baby and his Jump Around remix.

Now I’m just getting into prog house (or whatever you call his music, doesn’t really matter) but I don’t have many alternatives. I’m not really into minimal or lounge house, it’s the energy and buildup in these tracks I love.

Any takers? I know I’ve heard of others but I can’t remember any names…

  • Go to beatport.com
  • Explore the genre charts
  • Dig about, follow links, search for names.
  • Repeat.

Seriously, try looking for some new music. There’s plenty out there.

[/quote]You don’t say… point was, I’m new to prog house as a whole and was wondering if you might have some personal faves?

If you want favourite artist than just check out the top ones in that category. Beatport is some good advice because getting top stuff in new genres is easy there.

deadmau5 is my favorite progressive producer as well. I think thats where he shines. Not Exactly and Arguru are my all time favs hands down. I find im very selective in my progressive house tracks. I like them to most importantly have a good soothing melody. Some of my other favourites are Daniel Portman-wellness park, thomas schwartz -jupiter calling

Hmmm isn’t Deadmau5 more of a electro producer?

more so yes. But he has a lot of progressive style tracks.

Hence the part about “Go to the genre pages”.
Go there, hit “top 100”, listen to them.

I’m not being facetious. That’s exactly how you find new music.

could try last.fm, type in deadmau5 and see what else comes up that’s related to him. works for me.

DILEMN
ELECTRIXX
FEDDE LE GRAND
LAIDBACK LUKE
DADA LIFE

i think i would compare deadmau5 to those artists

I wouldn’t compare DADA life to any of them. I think his style is truely unique… and its pretty damn dirty. Not saying that the others mentioned aren’t bad, everyone knows laidback luke kicks ass.

hm…maybe you are right

you might like also artist such as :

Global Underground is a label that has many mix CD’s with a lot of prog house on them. I have downloaded a lot of their unmixed versions from Napster, since it’s legal now.

Here is a list of other labels, although I haven’t looked through them myself.

Not sure he’s really similar to Deadmau5 or even really Prog. House, but I loooove James Harcourt. He definitely has some Prog. House tracks though.
These are some of my favorite tracks/remixes:

Thanks for the tips guys, will have stuff to find for a couple weeks now

And I’m gonna thoroughly check Beatport out

coming from a prog background myself, the global underground series is definitely a good start for prog tracks. most of the tracks on the mixes are available to DL individually as well. i have a whole bunch of these cd’s around somewhere. Nick Warren, Amsterdam (GU018) classic :stuck_out_tongue: i use a lot of stuff off bedrock records also.

Deadmua5 sound is a crossover of prog house, trance and electro-house, so its not prog house like sasha, digweed, seaman, global underground brand of prog. If you like him then check out Chris Lake who is buddies with him (check the youtube vids) and Sebastien Leger one of Deadmau5 fav producers. Another one who does a similar kind of crossover is Eric Prydz as Pryda, whereas his techno stuff is as Cirez D.

chris lake does a filthy remix of the eurhythmics - sweet dreams. +1 for chris lake abd pryda. iron man is a good track… cant think of some of the others we’ve got off hand atm

M8 just go for adam k
