Anyone have any experience building custom wood enclosures?

I just got a korg padkontrol, and im going to get a korg nanokontrol as well. im going to paint my padkontrol, but i was thinking, id like to build a custom surround for it. like nice wood around the korg and then have a spot at the bottom for the nanokontrol to make it one unit…sort of.

but i was hoping for some tips from someone that may be more experienced with this sort of thing. like what type of wood should i get, what thickness will work good. how to put it together…nails…glue…both? what work the best for cutting notches for the cable spots? what would work best to smooth the edges…i forget what their called but its like a dremel tool or something…any tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Bah I typed a reply but it dissapeared. So here’s the short of it…
1/4" to 1/2" Maple or Oak any bigger will weigh a ton.
Clamp and glue with finishing nails or brads if you go with screws predrill all your holes to avoid splitting.
Router with roundover bit. Bits are expensive so I would just sand the edges smooth.
Plunge router or a drill press and jigsaw will cut most shapes you need for your cabling.

ok sounds like a start. is this nowaysj btw? pretty sure its you from dsf man.

but yeah im gonna start drawing up a plan soon. im gonna stop at home depot and see what they have..
