Anyone recommend a decent midi keyboard for use with Logic 9 ?

Been looking at various M-Audio ones but not overly sure what to go for !

Any recommendations guys ?

Cheers

Luke

The Novation SL series are sweet - don’t get the compact version though

Depends what you want. Any midi keyboard with knobs and keys and faders should be decent. the m-audio knobs are a bit odd though. they kind of keep twisting… can’t really explain… i just use an Oxygen 8 to be honest. I just map the knob i want to automate at any given moment.

the m-audio axiom pro series. just ordered one, it will self map into most DAW’s, check’em out

i’ve used an oxygen 8 forever with no complaints. i suppose it depends on the kinds of controls you want, key feel, etc…

and i agree with Bento, novation SLs look pretty sweet

I would say just get an oxygen 8, you think you are going to use all these extra knobs, but really in my experience thus far, they keys and a nice mouse (and knowledge of the keyboard mapping) are the most important.

My Virus TI gives me warm fuzzys.

Although it does just a tiny little more than just MIDI..

if you just want it for simple inputting in the piano roll editor then get a m-audio keystation. if you want to do more techincal stuff & also for live production/DJ’ing go for a novation

I have the keystation 66 for Logic, and Novation remote sl for live production

For a straight UP Midi Keyb. definitely Akai MPK-49 or 25 …

Korg MicroKontrol

I had a play with one of those in the music store, the keys are so tiny they become almost unplayable, the keys also has a cheap “im going to break any second now” feeling - not something id recommend for production, maybe if you wanna be ultra portable though, then i could see it having its place for when you wanna bring around a small controller to a mate house or if theres not much space in a booth and you want to have a play on a synth as your doing your thing.

Perhaps the kontrol 49 then? Seems to be a larger (and more sturdy?) version of the microkontrol.

Hmmm really. I always enjoyed the Micro, although now you mention it I can see what you mean by the keys.

I am just not to rough with my gear when im in the studio.
Yet you are right, for its price tag I would not take it out to a show.

The series I have always had trouble with are the M-Audio Oxygen. Seems the keys will break and sometimes they do not send any information to the comp at all (could be a comp problem but its common between many setups I have used).

Right now I am using a Behringer UMX25 and I actually enjoy it. The keys have not given me any troubles in the two years I have been using it. Clean data between the comp and controller. My only gripe is the 8 knobs on the top are not smooth. Some faders would of been nice to have.

I am anxious to one day get my hands on and try out a novation.
