Anything I can do with a regular silver VCI-100?

Hi,

I am new to this forum and to DJ:ing. Just figuring stuff out as we speak.

The VCI-100 (non special edition) has quite a different layout compared to the DJ TT VCi-100 SE version. Is there anything I can do to make the VCI-100 look more like VCI-100SE?

AFAIK it’s not possible to stick overlays to the VCI-100 silver. At least, it looks like it’s not because the surface is not completely flat.

I’m feeling a tad ripped off that I didn’t got the SE model, but then again, it doesn’t seem to be available anywhere else than on this site. What is the difference?

different layout ??? really ??? whats different about the layout ???

pretty sure its exactly the same layout.

You could buy a djtechtools ovelay and stick that on , that will get you a step closer as it will be black

Check out the middle section. It seems lower than the upper part. But then again, I don’t know. Just asking

nah its all the same, just different colour and better knobs.

I have the silver version and i can do everything that all others can do just not in as much style

It looks to me as if I were right, though. This Special Edition looks completely flat.

ha ha think thats just down to the overlay over the top of it all and anyway , you feel ripped off due to the fact its flat and yours isnt? .. hmmm

If anything i would be glad you have one at all and have managed to get one without having to fork out loads more money for a black one with different coloured lights and knobs.

No I don’t care for the layout, but it looks to me like the overlay won’t fit partly because of this. Notice how the screws are visible in the second picture, so I don’t think there’s an overlay.

Anyway, I’ve been labelling them manually and I think it works pretty well.

Those things that create the ridges are just plates and can be removed, just a flat blank surface behind them. Not 100% but i think the overlay may have screw holes in it.

it has screw holes..

Nice, so if I understand correctly, the only thing that differs would be the black knobs and coloring and a newer firmware? (Mine has an issue with the 4th effect button sending the same command as another button.)

Correctamundo !!

And you can sort all that by going shopping at djtechtools.

You need new knobs and faders http://techtools.myshopify.com/products/vci-100-knobs-and-sliders-black

Firmware upgrade kit Legacy Products – DJ TechTools

and the overlay http://techtools.myshopify.com/products/vci-100-overlays

all available from the store button at the top of the page. Only problem is they tend to be out of stock wuite a bit so you need to keep a firm eye on things!

Stick around, its nice in here  If you need any help with anything just shout

Yep.

The dj tt vci is like a regular vci-100, only with:
firmware upgrade - v1.3 (removes 4th fx button issue and iirc adds extra information to some knobs so you can do smart knobbing and all that jazz)
black knobs and faders
and the overlay

Oh and yes your 4th button problem is a bug in FW 1.2, upgrading to 1.3 will fix this plus give you a few extra tweaks

sorry … keep remebering things!

You will obviously still have silver jogs so you may want to get hold of some conductive black paint to spray the center of the jogwheels

they have different lcd colors (SE: blue/green, normal: orange/green) as well and i think the buttons are slightly better..

Have any of you tried this yourself? Whenever I google this matter, all I see is stuff about the VCI-100SE. I think the firmware upgrade is what I need the most, though. The button bug is horrible.

And thanks for the links to the overlays! It showed exactly what you told me, specifically that the ridges are just plates. He removes them in the video.

I am finally about to understand things.

HEHEHEHE

We were all there in the beginning!

But trust the rest around here.

The products here are QUALITY!

Super Stocked myself…STILL!

Other changes

The Sync button over Deck A is a toggle, not a hold (sends On note when pressed down and nothing when released, then Off note when pressed again)
The Bass knobs on each side send very different messages
and
there are a ton of other MIDI messages I can’t figure out.

Regardless, you don’t need conductive paint, just sand down the jog wheels really well and spray and coat or two and you’ll be fine.

Yup ive done it to mine … its really easy

look on youtube for the video that shows you how.
