Are digital DJ real DJ's?

Are digital DJ real DJ’s?

Im getting a bit bored now of all these ‘old skool’ vinyl fanatics having a go at me…and anyone else who uses any digital software…saying we are not real DJ’s.

I started DJing 6 years ago, I wasent around the whole vinyl era growing up… I can appreciate vinyl, and can sort of dj with them:slight_smile: but it is modern times now, what is wrong with Digital software? still play music? still get more or less the same result perhaps not such amazing sound quality…

I have decided to scrap time coded vinyl and use a controller, with Traktor, I play out, I call my self a DJ..Wrong?

i ate cereal for breakfast

I call myself a wizard

it depends on how you define a “DJ” or 'DJing". Vinyl, CDJ’s, midi controller, they are nothing more than a means to an end, that being playing tunes and rocking a party. If you can do that then by all means you’re a DJ in my eyes

sigh That old debate again. You didn’t run into Tom Novy lately, did you?
But seriously, who is more a DJ: The one with the laptop, who knows how to mix and keep a party going or the one with the turntables, who couldn’t mix right if his life would depend on it and who loses the crowd within the first 30 minutes and can’t get them back?
Or other: In the end it should only matter what comes out of the speakers and not what technology you use. I thought DJs had learn that lesson long ago, but it’s “Turntable Vs CDJ” all over again! Only that Vinyl and CD work are now allied troops in the war against Laptops. :stuck_out_tongue:

You are definetely not a real DJ if you use a laptop.

Niether are you a real DJ if you use CDs, vinyl or cassettes.

You are ONLY a a real DJ if you wear a Top Hat and shout down a megaphone like this jaunty fellow:

And thats official because Buzz Aldrin told me.

You got it all wrong Karlos, that’s MCing

OTT:
Not playing records in any shape, I don’t like to say I am DJing (where are the discs?). I guess I could say the D is for Digital, but I’m not a fan of that denomination either. That may be a way to put it though!

However I’m with the other posters on “doesn’t matter what kit, as long as the crowd is diggin it, that’ll make you real enough”. I’ll also add that the average pleb doesn’t usually give a rat’s ass and will consider the music guy/gal at whatever party to be “the dj” even if all he/she’s doing is at most selecting the tunes for the winamp playlist, no matter what genre is involved.

Yep… /thread.

Let’s not start this debate once again!

who gives a…

I think we need another poll

I think we need a Poll on whether there are too many Polls these days.

YESYESYES!
Then let’s do the serato vs traktor poll again!

Hey Guys I Am New Here. Are Revolving Doors Real Doors? I Mean They Serve The Same Purpose But Still.. And I Know Revolving Doors Are Sort Of New And Shit But Yeah..

Maybe We Need A Poll ?

HALP

Are digital photographers “real” photographers?

Are commercial pilots “real” pilots?

Are CAD architects “real” architects?

Do you see where this can go?

No these are not “real” doors, a real door must be wooden(but not finished) on wrought iron hinges. It must weigh a minimum of 100lbs. It can only be opened by pushing it. But it must also have a nice creak to it…if it doesn’t…sorry it is not real.

Are electric cars real cars? They don’t run on gas, yet they have 4 wheels, like a regular car. Hmmm…

Hear we go again.

@TABS… nice analogy. Can digital calculators ever replace the abacus?

The Abacus will stand the test of time…because…you are not a true mathematician unless you can use the Abacus.
