why has there not been a history of controllerism timeline in an article yet?
like starting with early soft and hardware that was used, by who and when then different evolutions of the soft/hardware as well as styles and techniques all the way up to where it is now and what is in store for the future
I believe there was an article, and B3n posted a “controller” YouTube video that shows the entire timeline of controls evolving. It’s lengthy, with elevator-music, but fun to watch.
well its pretty hard to define. The 1st versions of traktor had hot cues but so did the cdjs. unlike turntablism its a very wide area with ppl using all sorts of equipment. Maybe an artical that includes some sort of history
I think we need to define what controllers were talking about! Midi keyboards , synths, drum machines, vocoders, arcade buttons…What do you consider a controller…does it have to be electronic!
Are we talking controllers strictly for Djing or for making music. This could be one long winded article…Roland might be a good start!
Yeah im thinking were pretty much in the midst of that right now…I mean you had guys in the 80s using EMU SP 12 hundreds AND Akai MPCs(designed by Roger Linn) on stage with turntables usually at hip hop concerts banging away on drum machines live and improvising with samples (d nice comes to mind). Dr Dre did what was called 4 track mixes where he had 2 tracks pre-recorded and would overlay over the top of those tracks with turntables…the 90’s was the era of the groove boxes the MC- 505 (Mega mix mode and D beam controller) was basically abelton before abelton with out the sampling. The price of memory in those days was astronomical. To get a decent sampling system would cost you several thousands of dollars. Alot has changed but the song remains the same.
