Audio10 snafu

Audio10 snafu

Looks like its no longer USB powered. Not sure if I want it now, since I like to keep my setup simple.

“Power Supply Via included 9V 1200mA power plug. TRAKTOR AUDIO 10 will only work with Power Supply connected.”

http://www.native-instruments.com/#/en/products/dj/traktor-audio-10/?page=1968

There’s only so much power you can take from USB unfortunately. Plus you might need power for the ‘Thru’ mode when you haven’t got a laptop plugged in, not sure

It’s almost looking like the older videocards, that needed an external power supply too.

I find it a bit odd…

I guess, but I dont need a thru option I just want the extra input and output. Maybe they could have added a firewire option for the mac users.

Maybe, unfortunately Apple torpedoed firewire when they left it off some Mac models

Wonder if it’ll work without external power if you’re not using all of the features? From listening and reading all the stuff it looks like they’re really pushing the 10 to be a standard install in clubs so you won’t have to worry about plugging it in. Of course it will take some time before that happens.

hmm…do you think clubs would go for A10 over SL4 if they only wanted to choose one? SL4 has a big advantage with 2 usbs.

Depends if the club wants to cater for Traktor DJs i guess.
With more DJs coming thru the ranks with Traktor, clubs need Audio 6/8/10s installed.

What I can make up from the page, you really need to plug in the power.

PSU is mandatory for the A10 but optional for the A6.

yup.

you don’t happen to have stats on market share of serato vs traktor? or units sold… been looking for this information for a while now out of curiosity but no luck. Just anecdotes that traktor is more popular in europe while serato dominates in US.

as for little old nz…i’ve only ever seen serato in clubs

Well at least it won’t fail to a weak usb hub

One more thing to plug in isn’t very fun all the same.

I’m getting one on the 1st for sure… anyone wants to buy an audio8?

there’s absolutely no reason at all that any club worth its weight in shit shouldn’t have both soundcards (audio10/SL4, or at the least audio8/SL3) installed with a switchbox into the installed mixer. these cards cost nothing compared to the profits the bar would make in an hour or two… if said clubs had even just one international/local big name a year there’s no excuse.

I’m not sure how big of a deal it is. If you’re using a powered hub, you already need power. If you build your controller(s) into a road/flight case, you might as well put in a small power strip anyway, so it’s still just 1 power cord to plug-in.

It’s probably a bigger deal for the more classic setups that only use 2 decks, but an audio 6 + TSP2 upgrade might be cheaper and work just as well.

Or, you could spend more on the SL4 and get what seems like a better interface anyway, just can’t use TS.
