Beat Block! (Writers Block)
Right now I’m currently having trouble staying focused on producing music. My creative flow came to a dead stop and I cant shake it. Anybody else have that problem and have any tips on how to get through it?

I struggle with this all the time
I guess personally my mind is always on other stuff coz we always hav so much of these tasks that we need to Complete in life
I get the best results when i just sit in front of my gear and just fool around
I dont try to make a killer track, but instead just Jam
I also read a cool article recently on how to be inspired

What I do when I hit writers block:
- I don’t stress over the fact that I don’t have an idea. It’s not a bad thing.
- I listen to other genres of music I really like.. Kinda to give my ears a refreshing break from 4 to the floor kicks.
- Play some Nintendo 64
- Do something else creative, like make a good dinner.
- Watch a few movies
These may seem weird, but you shouldn’t have to force music onto yourself. Trying different approaches may help but sometimes you simply just need a good break.
Nintendo 64 dude? How old are you? Why don’t you bust out the 2600 or Intellivision too? 
As to OP - look for other forms of inspiration, both within and outside of music and sometimes breaks are good.
25, it was the first game console I ever got, and the only one I’ll ever actually want to play at this day and age 
Super Mario 64, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Mario Kart, Zelda, etc. Can it get any better? lol

I have a PS3 now and games like ‘The Last of us’ and ‘Tomb Raider’ actually swallow all my production time 
Yeah, Nintendo is cool but let’s get back on topic here..
dont force it, try starting another track from scratch and see where it takes you and what ideas you get out of that, theres been more than one occasion where i have combined elements from different tracks to make a new one. Failing that let it simmer for a week and come back to it or do something to take your mind off it and come back fresh faced. You will be suprised how some time out will work wonders for your creativity
Work through it.
Most successful creatives will tell you that inspiration is a luxury. Work is what gets things done.
I think the last few posts just proved how we can loose the plot completely and start concentrating on other things and not on writing music!
I’ve not been doing it too long but just take a break and listen to something completely different.
Also just compose drum loops with weird perc sounds in… I’ve found just one weird melodic sound in the right place can trigger something else.
skate 3 has been my go to game when I find myself stuck. I tried a few different things that seem to help, like focus on working on my car.
Tutorials are good way to get inspired
Sonic Academy is a good place to start

Also just try to do more creative stuff with the gear you have
