Running into a problem with a track that I bought from Beatport. I mix with Traktor and the track drifts on and off from the grid. I tried fixing the track in Ableton but just have a few questions:
Should I warp the track in “Beats”? (it’s a standard 4/4 track)
and
Would setting warp markers be the best way to fix it??
just drop another grid marker further on in the track. IMO if you are going to the trouble of warping your tunes, you may as well use ableton for dj’ing as well
You can very often find a part of the intro that grids perfectly. Place a grid and a loop on that part.
Then drop a second grid on the outro of the track where the grid lines up perfectly, remember you cannot adjust the grid as you will undo the first. Then drop a loop on where that grid marker is.
There you have a sync-able intro and outro on a track with a fluctuating BPM. A good example of this is MJ’s - Billie Jean, its drifts but theres a sweet spot at the start where a 4 beat loop works perfectly and again at the end.
Ok so I tried a few different ways to warp it in Ableton and this track is nothing but trouble. The drift comes in and out multiple times and when I warp it, it sounds funny at some points because it’s not a full 4/4 count. Maybe I’m just doing it wrong. Anyone know of a guide?
What you gotta understand about warping is that you can add warp markers to every single beat of the track, and doing that it will get absolutely perfect. But it will take hours. So you gotta find the error spots and solve them with warp markers, leaving the “stable” areas with no warp markers. So it will take minutes.
The track was very unstable and bending + and - on random places which is not common, but the beats are very clear so it wasn’t hard at all.
Yes, I always do it this way. But there is no such a thing as a “General Warping Procedure”, there are too much variants. If you are warping the track you are doing it because a human did something “wrong”. the person may have erred in many ways, so you gotta kind of understand what were the mistakes and solve them.
You should always think of warp markers as clamped points. Those points won’t move if you don’t touch them, so if you get two clamped points and move just one of them the track between them will deform.
The only way to dominate it is doing it hundreds of times. Like how you dominate the procedure of finding the perfect spot of the downbeat.
