X-Session Pro is a midi mixer, a little under $100. Also the Hercules controllers are cheap, even a numark total control is cheaper than the VCI.
For Plastik
hi plastick,
i see that you want to buy some gear. Well how much money are you able to spend? I posted my VCI-100 for sale at 300 dollars. Heres the link. VCI-100 For Sale!! <<$300 Flat>>
i can make you a deal just because im really trying to get rid of my controller since i want to switch to serato with a different midi controller. I can sell it for $250 with a soundcard. The sound card is a gigaport AG soundcard which is really simple but it perfect for starting off. Let me know and check out my other posting. Thanks for your time.
hey i want that soundcard lol kk ibuy everything for 250 lol
no wait i already have a vci for how much the soundcard
luig, private message me, well work something out. thanks
You could check out the korg nano devices, they are very cheap and very functional.
I forgot all about those. They are so cute.
I would check Machine Collective for cute controllers. ![]()
what do u guys think, of this setup, and thanks for for all the suggestions, i will look into them
akai mpd 24
external mixer that my friend has
maya 44 usd
The akai is nice, but in my eyes has a big flaw:
It can only operate in absolute mode and not in relative mode.
whats that mean(im really new)
Short example:
Let’s say you have a big music folder that is filled with let’s say 758 songs.
In absolute mode, a knob or a button only has 128 values. This is not enough to browse through all 758 songs properly.
In relative mode you have limitless posibilities to send out values, as that the only value sent is +1 or -1.
wat if i just the functions of browsing up or down through the music folder and send to deck A and B to the arroww keys, would that work, or is it even possibly.
Dont go cheap on gear…ever. Youll end up spending so much more cause in 3 months youll realize your shit SUCKS! Iv done it, and i know alot of other Dj have as well.
You can use buttons to do the same thing, but being able to select the type of data the rotaries send out is something you really want. There is no point having rotaries unless they can also send relative data.
i would get a 25 key oxygen and traktor. use eans tks files and that mixer that way you can do cue point juggling and use effects.
You can do that to, but as the others mentioned, a rotary with absolute only is a no go.
(The browse up down was just an example.
)
Yeah rotaries can be really useful if they send the right information, the thing that makes rotaries nice(being endless) is the same thing that makes them not feel so great. For example its nice to have the knob stop on 0 and end on 127, especially if your doing something like a traktor fx freeze at the end of the knob. So ideally you want something with a mix of rotaries, traditional knobs, buttons and whatever else you can get your hands on. Having several different types of midi controls is pretty important and there are things that you can do on one type of control that you cant do on another. So try getting some the most diversity you can for your $
thanks alot tekki and bentosan, that cleared alot up, but in your eyes what is the most divers controler?
A DIY Audrino contoller haha ![]()
Seriously though, there is no one controller with a diverse amount of controls this is the thing, your better off getting a number of small devices. A option could be the Machine Collective controllers, because as you get more money you could continue adding onto your setup easily. Check out the Machile Collective thread - Machine Collective's modular controllers.
