I am starting to put together a setup for myself. I have been amassing some vinyl and want to dj both vinyl and mp3s in a setup. After some research I started looking at the Denon MC6000, Traktor S4 and the Pioneer DDJ SX. These have phono inputs and are 4-channel.
My question is: I know I’ll be able to play my records using the TT (technics 1200) hooked up to any of these controllers. What about having a software do the same features (cues, FX, beat grids, etc) it does for mp3s, for the TT as well? Is it true that the TT input will need special mapping? Does it vary between the above conrollers? what about software (traktor vs serato vs virtual dj)?
Today, would I be able to use the latest traktor/VDJ/serato with the Denon MC6000?
Any help is much appreciated! Even suggestions on a different controller..
The turntables basically become platter controllers for the decks they affect, including the pitch control. The rest of the software controls are available while you’re playing using vinyl control. Only the effects are available while you’re playing a record.
The SX2 and SX can use SeratoDJ’s vinyl control, but there’s an upgrade cost. The original SX cannot be upgraded.

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense. I have had my eyes on used denon MC6000 (not the mk2) for a while now for budget reasons. You did not mention it, so is it safe to assume this controller won’t have this capability with say VDJ or traktor? Or is it a matter of traktor pro/scratch not being compatible with the controller?
should I just altogether drop the MC6000 and invest a little bit more towards the mc6000mk2 or the S4 or the SX?
If you already have turntables and a laptop, I would look at getting a Traktor Z2 mixer and an X1mk2 instead of a controller. The Z2 has a Traktor sound card in it, and comes with a full version of Traktor Scratch Pro. It has a button right on top of the mixer that lets you switch from playing real vinyl, to playing mp3’s in Traktor Scratch Pro. The X1mk2 has the play/stop buttons, cue point buttons, and all the effects knobs on it that lets you use the setup like a controller. You can even use the mixer and the X1 like a controller without having the turntables setup or plugged in. The beauty of having a full Traktor Scratch Pro license, is that you can then buy used Traktor controllers dirt cheap that don’t include the software, and they will work with your copy of Traktor. The Z2 also has the remix decks built in, and you can add an F1 to make them even easier to use. The problem with using these new 4 channel controllers and adding turntables to them, is that they are so wide, that the turntables are too far away from the mixer, so keep that in mind.
Sorry I am replying late to my own thread. Thanks for the responses. I have established that I want to be able to mix vinyl (records not timecode) and mp3s. I’m still fixated on the denon mc6000 and its mkII model for reasons that they are multifunctional, solid and affordable controllers for someone like me that is starting out in this arena.
It feels like the Traktor mixers & controllers are high priced, when i check on ebay.
Any further recommendations? I’m hoping to land a denon mc6000 or the mkII this week..
