Best setup for djing?

X1s aren’t that expensive in the grand scheme of things, you can get two of them for less than a VCI-100 SE and they’re the perfect compact controller for Traktor. They also are way more powerful and useful than the akai because they can control everything in Traktor except for the pitch bend and faders.

Are you going to be scratching? Because the only reason you might need jog wheels of some sort are for that reason.

do some reading on the X1’s. There’s tons of them. Also check out some of the mappings posted for it. You can use the endless encoders to scroll thru tracks either with fine scrolling or doing 4-8 count beat jumps. It also has dedicated pitch buttons and pitch bend buttons. If money was an issue I would partition the Mac you already have, and buy the audio 2 and X1 used. At least they come with Traktor LE so you have a head start and a cheaper way to upgrade to pro.

I don’t understand why people are giving you sound advice and you continue to come back with reasons why it’s not what you want to hear. Good luck to you.

[QUOTE]

FYI - They can control everything in traktor. Default mapping has buttons for that.

I’ve used the rotaries as volume faders when using an X1 as a stand alone.

I’m not coming back to LPD8. I don’t know what i want, that’s why I made this thread. I’m just doing the devil’s advocate.

I won’t use scratch, not my style.
Is it possible to custom map the X1? Is it made only for traktor or may it be used as midi controller for other software also?

Used with Serato. X1 would be ideal by the sound of it. You can get an Audio 4 or 8 for cheap now that the new NI sound cards are out. 1 x club mixer, 2 x CDJ’s, 1 x external soundcard, 1 x X1.

It’s MIDI so you can map it any way you want. I think I’ve seen some people using the X1 in Serato but don’t quote me on that.

Where could i get these things used? I’m from europe.
Ebay hasn’t much…

How come you’re so hung up on price? Do you not have a job or anything?

I’m starting my business so… Its hard to make a commitment (talking about the price). I have money for whatever I want but business wise I can’t spend more than I earn right?
My business is going slowly… Situation of the country doesn’t help so… The less I can spend, for the time being, the better!

Everyones situation is different. And I agree with the original posters last post. No reason to spend extra if you don’t need to. Saving money is better, and not spending more then you earn is EVEN BETTER. The United States has no idea how to do this.

Kind of what I was trying to say. Just in a much more long winded way

I already trying! Ehehe… by the way… what are the main differences between pro and le? Is it only 4 tracks and timecode?

I didn;t say it was bad. It’s usually accurate on straightforward 4/4 stuff. However, with other styles and some quirky timings it’ll be off and you have to manually set all the beat grids (which you should be doing for every song really).

Was just making the point that DJing digitally is not just installing Traktor loding up deck A, press play, preee sync followed by play on deck B and the crossover.

I already gave you a link to a cheap and solid Hercules RMX which lots of people on here are using as a cheaper alternative/preferred alternative in some case to the VCI-100.

Maybe you should go to your local DJ store and play around with stuff til you find what feels right and get a bit of an idea and then come back here and ask for more advice when you have a bit more of a feel and understanding of controllers etc?! Not a diss, just a genuine constructive statement.

Yeah I already knew that I would have to edit each music and I prefer so I can have better control.

I already spent some time trying stuff… I really dont like Hercules. VCI-100 is too expensive in my way of seeing things.

I’m thinking about X1 but… 200e… For something that I may not get the income… Plus the audio interface, computer and musics… I dunno…

But thanks for all the repliers trying to help

Yeah I’m good at that. It seemed like the point wasn’t being caught

Agreed. But then the poster says he’d buy a Mac with an LPD8 and Traktor Pro instead of trying cheaper options that are being recommended/advised.

If you really want to do it on a budget, based on UK prices, you could buy:

  • Hercules RMX for £200 which comes with Virtual DJ (about 230 Euros)
  • Decent Windows laptop for about £400/500 (450-550 Euros)
  • If absolutely essential, buy Traktor Pro 1 for about £80 (90 Euros) or Traktor Pro 2 if you have money left over, hell even throw in an X1 if you wanted!

Considering you’re saying you wanna do it on the cheap, I don’t quite undestand why you won’t just consider this kind of basic but very usable setup.

When you set up, run Traktor audio out into the Hercules RMX (which has 2 outputs), then run the RMX’s output into the club mixer. You can run Traktor Deck A/C into through RMX channel 1 into Channel 1 on the mixer and Decks B/D into the RMX’s second channel and into the mixer second channel. Choose to mix externally in Traktor to set this up. Map the RMX for whatever you want it to do in Traktor. Now you have a fully sensible and usable controller with plenty of faders, knobs and buttons along with using your preferred club mixer.

Never tried LE version but I believe things like effects etc are limited too.

Let’s get this straight…
I said i prefer a MAC and that I have a mac which I won’t use since it’s my working computer. I said that maybe I could get a MAC, Intel Core 2 Duo, 13’’ white for like 350e. I asked on the first post the opinion about computers, If i can get a cheaper one that does the same job, since I only want to djing… awesome!

I never said that I wanted the Traktor Pro. I dont believe that I need such a software. That’s the reason of my question.

I just… don’t like to use Hercules RMX. Tried and I don’t like. I can get the Audio 2 DJ for like 60e and the X1 for 190e even if I get Traktor Pro ( which I don’t think I will ) it won’t be much more expensive than the Hercules RMX! Between the two options I prefer the X1 (obviously).

Anyway… once again about the computer… what would you recommend?

budget… what is it?
