Okay so the past few days I’ve been kicking around a drum & bass (ish) remix of the song Blade. I really don’t know who it’s by originally, this song has been remixed and sampled countless times. (For an idea of a previous mix, if you’ve been living in a cave and don’t know: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuYUOaviQN0)
But anyway, I’m just curious what you guys even think of this idea? Should I even bother working on it more? This is only like 40 or so seconds because that’s all I really have done. I haven’t even really taken the time to worry about mixing, eq, and all that… so yes, I know it doesn’t sound so great yet… I’m more worried about concept, I guess.
But anyway, feedback would be appreciated. And be nice, please.
This is a classic cut from the boys from the uk, the were previous know as Warsaw, then Joy Division until, Ian Curtis committed suicide, the band went on and became New Order, they came out with a very know song called Blue Monday, just wanted to give you a quick history on who they are, respect the classics.
The song is: New Order - Confusion (Pump Panel Reconstruction)
btw aquagen came out with some remixes to “phat bass” that thave the riff by itself for any remixers or dj’s that like to do mashups.
I had a bet with myself without even listening to this track that it was Confusion. You called it “Blade” cuz it was used in the opening sequence of the Wesley Snipes movie (the scene with a vampire Traci Lords)
I like what you’ve done with the synth riff. I agree that it’s a good start. The drum loops should be longer than 1 bar and need more variety. The echo gets a little boring. and it is drum and BASS… bassline?
Otherwise I think it’s a really nice proof of concept. Looking forward to hearing what comes out.
And with regards to the whole bassline problem… I know. Honestly the real problem is that at the moment I don’t have decent speakers/monitors to work with anymore, and it’s difficult to do anything without decent bass response. Tomorrow though I don’t have work so during the afternoon I’ll just connect my computer to an old stereo… better than nothing.
WDPK: I know the drum loop should be longer, I know the echo is boring. I’m sorry. I just wanted to see if anyone would actually enjoy the song before I worked on it anymore.
After all, what’s the point of making music if no one likes it?
Okay so I worked more on this song, and I gotta be honest, I’m really excited about the way it’s turning out. It’s about a minute long now, and I added some variety in drum loops, another synth, and some other fun stuff.
Hey, bud. Don’t apologize for anything. You asked for a critique I know it’s a sketch of a track, so keep it up… Critique number 2 follows however…
The second synth doesn’t make any sense to me. Sounds “circusy,” and loses a lot of menace from the original track. Here, I’ll post the original (the one they used in Blade), and see if it helps you vibe off it any.
Thanks for the feedback. I can’t download the song at the moment, I should be able to tomorrow afternoon.
And I know, you ever feel really excited about something and then come back to it later and it’s just sort of mediocre? That’s pretty much where I’m sitting with this whole project.
But either way, what about the synth sounds “circusy”? The actual sound of the synth? The melody? Both?
