Its a few weeks down the road but I’m debating a macbook pro purchase…
I have been a PC guy for a while but I finally see the benefits of a macbook for dj’ing. I already have a decked out desktop that I use for organizing/remixing/producing and I feel that the macbook would be a good laptop.
I currently have a POS vaio so any upgrade will seem like a huge one to me, I really like the macbook because of the unibody design, it seems really durable for something like dj’ing.
The question is, I already know I will be picking up a refurb’d one. Should I hold off and go with a new one even with the stated issues…or should I pick up an old C2D or generation1 core i5 version for the sake of cost?
To answer your question simply, yes - pick up a new one.
You want the Thunderbolt port. With the speed it provides… it’s going to become very useful for DJs with a huge library and an external drive. Not to mention you will be able to run programs off your external HD faster then your internal one just cause of it’s sheer speed. I would definitely pick up a new one. Hands down. No questions asked.

For £650.00 (I am assuming it belongs to someone who just purchased it and then lost their job on the way back from the shop, so has to sell at a discount - for arguements sake )
Is it a good deal. I knwo the price is good but is the spec good?
Thanks for the advice…I will make sure to wait for the new one due to the port, I am still very VERY skeptical about it, apple doesn’t publicly announce issues with their computers so if you hear of incidents of a new one failing you could probably multiply that by 100 to get the actual number.
That tight of fiberoptic integration was not ready for the market unless if intel poured alot of energy into it over the last 6 months.
I’ll just wait it out, see how tp2 works with my current comp and how tp2 integrates with maschine. I gotta know what kind of workload I will be using.
Being able to pull songs off my desktop and onto my laptop in half the amount of time will be a huge advantage though.
Just bought my very first MacBook pro and I’m loving it. I have not had any issues with it even when I’m runnin The Brige and 2 sound cards. I would say hold off untill the new ones come up refurbished.
Just remember (the same thing happened with the S4) you will only see posts on forums about people who have trouble with the product. So when you’re looking, you’re looking at directly into the pool of people who had issues with it. The people whose work flawlessly will rarely say anything on any of the forums since they’re too busy playing with their new toy.
