Buying a pair of turntables

Still sounds like a good deal. Can you post a picture of these hinges? I removed all hinges + dust covers so they neatly tuck into their individual flight cases.

Yea, I’ll get some pictures of them. And I’m still in process of getting a mixer and everything, so I just keep it on for now, plus I think it kinda looks classly haha. But am I suppose to have a rubber mat under my slipmats? because I don’t, and is there a way to wash them? because they came quite dustly and they get the underside of the record dustly when I play them

no, rubber mats are only for record listening and even then slip mats are fine. you could try washing them but it could damage them, I wouldn’t dry them though. I would just get some new slip mats.

No, you do not want to use the rubber mat unless you are strictly playing records or ripping vinyl to MP3. Here’s a good turntable tutorial.

Yea, I was going to just get new ones, but I could save some money, thats always a bonus

I played a drum n bass gig with a couple other guys for a few months, and one of them was notorious for liking those rubber mats for some reason. So we’d always have to switch out when we switched DJs, he’d toss the slipmats and put down the rubber mats, and I’d toss the rubber mats and put down the slipmats. It was really weird; I couldn’t figure out why anyone would want the rubber mats that way, but apparently some people like playing like that. Personally, I tossed my rubber mats when I bought the turntables over ten years ago and have never missed them.

are there brands of slipmats? i’ve heard about butter mats or something like that.

Most slips are fairly basic, but I know Technics sell ‘speedmats’ which are really skinny slips, and Thudruble sell a whole host of stuff including butter rugs (which are just slippier slipmats) flying carpets (which are plastic sheets to go under your standard slipmats to make em slippier) and frosted rugs which is a butter rugs and a flying carpet combined I think …

dskreet turntable slipmats

I have the dskreet slipmats, not sure if they are way too slippery for me or if i was just too used to my old basic mats. Looks like it was designed very well. It’s thin, sticks to the platter, doesn’t stick or static against the vynil.

butter rugs. I have them and don’t like them, I prefer a thicker mat.

The stock Technics slipmats or Thudrumble Tripmats feel just right.

I didn’t like the technics ones, the guy who owned my tables before me had them, and they were ok, until I bought a pair of Ortofon mats, and realized how much I didn’t like the technics. Maybe they were just old.
I’ve got a circle of waxed paper between my platter and slipmat on each deck, and they make things so much more buttery  in a good way.

Edit: its all a matter of taste though, they all do pretty much the same thing. Sicmats, Ortofon, and the other names that float around regarding mats are all good, I just went with a mat that looked cool. (Got the ones with the blue genie on em)
