**Buying an S4 second hand** Does the software key have to be de-registered by the seller before I can re-use it having bought the s4? ---

YES. They will have to contact NI support so they can release the serial #. That way you can register it in your name and get updates etc. I think there is a form on NI’s sight some where. I know Karlos has it handy. \*hint ---

I bought my S4 on the buy/sell forum and the seller told me he faxed the form to NI to unregister the software so I can register it under my name. ETA is Friday so upon receiving the unit I’ll let you know if NI makes the process painless or they would need a couple emails to “speed the process”. I really hope it goes down without issues!! ---

I sold my VCI-100 this weekend with a Traktor Pro license because I got my S4 and won’t be needing it any more. What I did was register and activate my S4 on a new account (with a different e-mail address) and rename the e-mail address of my old account (with TPro) to that of the buyer. Then sending him a new password, and there you are, my account is now his. 😉 ---

Hmm that’s a work-around, but you’re not actually transferring the license are you. Better to get it un-registered. ---

I am about to buy an S4 from someone on the forum, he wants to keep his version of tpro2 because his new controller will use tpro2 scratch. If he just wants to sell me the controller and keep the software what will I need him to do for proper registration on my end. I already have tpro2, I upgraded from tpro. ---

i dunno .. i would just un-register the s4 and get it transfered to avoid scammery 🕶 ---

You register the S4 software not the controller so if he’s sending you just the controller there’s nothing to unregister. It’s a gray area that’s a little confusing, NI has said you can’t sell the software without the controller, but hasn’t come out and said you can’t sell the controller without the software (that was before the two merged though). I don’t see any problem with selling the controller only, but worst case scenario NI may not recognize that you own the controller if you don’t have S5 software registered on your account at some point. ---

So what do you believe the best course of action to be for him to be able to keep the tractor scratch pro2 as a registered user and for me to be able to register the S4 which appears to be done through the S4 software serial. Would I be able to connect the S4 and use my tpro2 serial (I upgraded from pro) to register it or it doesn’t work like that. Thanks for your insight. ---
