Interesting thread. I don’t know much about UKG and now I feel like I need to explore it. Has anyone notice there are tracks coming out now combining dubstep basslines with 4 to the floor house beats? I know this isn’t pure dubstep by any means but this makes the track danceable while still enjoying a little bit of the wobble.

i just released an EP with my friend, if you go take a listen to a clip of Winter, you will hear the bassline on that, which is not strictly house, you can see my influences which come from house, hip hop dub god i could go on lol

short question: is dubstep that big iin the states?
I can’t really speak for the whole US, but as far as I can tell not at all. Most people don’t even know what it is. I’ve heard DJs mix a few tracks into their sets but it’s mostly electro house where I am. When I go to burning man most of the DJs spinning Dubstep are from the bay area (which is near the event) and they play at the small music theme camps.
IMO the US is definately not even as close to the UK scene. I’ve been watching some UK shows on netflix recently and I hear DS played in a lot of The episodes.
If I were to guess I would think it’s got a decent scene in he big cities though, NYC, Miami, SF, and LA. But that’s just an assumption.

just a thought, i heard a pendulum track with a dubstep feel to it the other week.
will their ‘sound’ ruin the genre, or push it further or bring a few more people to the party?
to start off… everyone should google “living inside the speaker documentary”. excellent film about the roots of dubstep in bristol.
now in my opinion, i would say a few years ago, dubstep woulda been easier to clasify or pigeon hole because it was just gaining its ground as a subgenre to electronic dance music. one could desribe most dubstep as half step beats with heavy basslines. but nowadays, we see that this description definitely doesnt fit well with most dubstep. producers are bluring the lines and venturing out into other subgenres and creating their own. one example: consider the sound pellegrino label (awesome label by the way). they were never a really a dubstep label, but they seem to be taking influences from dubstep, tech house, and mnml and throwing them into some melting pot of fresh, quality edm.
this is just my opinion. there will never be a right answer to this thread.
but on a side note someone had mentioned that dubstep isnt meant to be danced to and i couldnt disagree more. love getting grimey to some bassmusic

fairly familiar with the history tbh, used to be big into my garage when i was around 15 (so about 10 years ago), actually took the time to dig into it (beyond ez and artful dodger :eek: lol) as it was what i wanted to dj with when i got my first decks, but some reason went down the house road instead, then breaks, now house again…
was never claiming that it started anywhere just for the record. im sure it never “started” anywhere really…
it just appeared one day!

Still love my house but there ant any rave like a proper Garage rave

dubstep is on fire atm down here, everyone knows what it is and everyone’s playing it. sold out shows (headhunter this sat!!), it’s getting to be a good place to be.
