Can The Xone 4D & Traktor S4 play nicely with Ableton?

Hi guys, :smiley:

Forgive me if this has already been asked but I’m after some advice regarding both the Allen & Heath Xone 4D and the Native Instruments Traktor S4.

I’m wondering if either of these two devices can be used with Ableton.

I have recently been lucky enough to have my DJ sets aired on a local radio station, and they ideally require me to record my mixes in ableton so if needs be they can tweak for things like liners and segments.

Should either of these devices work, would I need anything else other than a Macbook Pro and the device, I mean would I need a specialist soundcard or..?

Yes they both work in Ableton. Ideally you can route Traktor into Ableton and assign all the EQ’ing, faders, FX in Ableton so when you record it, you can easily edit everything :slight_smile:. Or just use Ableton without Traktor.

Yes both could be used, but the 4D is ultimately designed for Ableton whereas the S4 would be more of a Hack job, it just doesn’t really have the amount of control you’d need on its own for a straight up Ableton set (imho)

Routing the Channels Via Jack or Soundflower into Ableton and recording each Traktor deck on separate channels would allow you to tweak all 4 channels independently after your usual mix in Traktor - at which stage the s4 would be the best route.

The Soundcard on both the 4d or s4 is fine and you wouldn’t need any more gear.

Really depends what you are comfortable mixing in, what software/hardware do you currently use ?

Speaking of Which someone has a 4D for sale in classifieds for a really good price if you are looking for one.

Seems weird they’d require you to actually record your mix in Ableton mind you its an expensive piece of software to go requiring people to use it for DJ mixes, a normal wav file can be cut up just as easily for inserting jingles and the likes, and the lite version of Ableton wouldn’t do the trick either due to the i/o limitations :-S
