Cartridge/Stylus Question

Cartridge/Stylus Question

Ok,

So I currently own a pair of Shure M35S, and just wondered whether the Stylus’ were interchangeable, meaning that I could instead replace the stylus’ with the N35X ones.

Now another question, If I can use the N35X needle, would this mean that I use the tracking force of the M35X or stick with what is recommended by the M35S.

Basically is the tracking force determined by needle or cartridge?

Cheers for the help.

I would think the tracking force affects the needle and cartridge.

I’m hesitant to speak about your situation specifically, but I know with Ortofon concorde-style cartridge and stylus, all of the styli are interchangeable with the cartridge. However, the website states that due to tracking force differences between different cartridge and stylus pairings, it’s not suggested to insert, say, an S-120 stylus to a Concorde Pro stylus.

Do you know the difference between the X and the S styli?

Send a quick email to Shure - they will actually reply to you (unlike some of their competitors) and will give you the correct advice, straight from the horses mouth.

I ended up just going with the N35s styli that are designed for it, still may email Shure see what they say.

This is great advice. Give them a call and they’ll straighten your question out.
