CDJ2000 vs. DNS3700

So I just tried out a Pioneer CDJ-2000 and a Denon DN-S 3700 at my local music store that they had set up with a DJM-600. And in my opinion, the 3700 didn’t even hold a candle to the Pio. Squishy buttons, a laughably ancient-looking display, weird effects setup, and the motorized platter didn’t help anything at all. Even when I turned off the motor, I still didn’t like it. I never really understood the appeal of motorized platters, as I’m of the mind that if you want turntable control and feel, get turntables; but that’s just my 2 cents on them. I didn’t really mess around a lot in the bells and whistles, but it seemed like the Pio could be a straight-up no-nonsense CDJ, while the 3700 had a bunch of extra bells and whistles that I couldn’t seem to get rid of. Echo on, auto-transition into the next song, it was simply a nightmare.

But yeah, considering that the 2000 and 3700 WERE the flagship CDJs of their respective companies, it seems that the Pio stomps all over the 3700. Is there something I’m missing here? Is there some great advantage to the 3700 that I overlooked? Did I just not give it a fair tryout?

Pretty much sums up the Denon, you’re not missing anything.

Then again not really a fair comparison. The 3700 came out quite a bit before the 2000 when the only USB CDJs pioneer had were the 400s. You can also get a pair of 3700s for less than the price of one 2000 now.

The 2000 is an industry standard for a reason, in most areas its going to be the superior product. The price is the big deciding factor there.

When you get a chance you gotta try out the 3900’s. They work very well w/ Traktor in Hybrid MIDI mode, and Engine is no different then Pioneer’s Recordbox. Using the 3700’s as a reference over the 3900’s would kinda be the same as CDJ 1000MK3’s vs. CDJ 2000’s…well kinda. There were a lot of options added to the 2000’s over the 1000’s, and the improvements of the 3900’s over the 3700’s aren’t really options. They basically fixed bugs and some other things people asked to change, but when the 3700 came out, it was the first of it’s kind and kind of a prototype. The 3900 is basically the refined version of the 3700

Yep, I agree.
The new Denon DJ SC3900’s has 98% everything a CDJ900/2000 has minus the $900 color display you pay for on the CDJ2000, plus a classic spinning platter and wirless iPad control via the engine app.

very true. just wish the would of done something much better with the screen…

I think it was the first CDJ that had a spinning platter that accurately mimicked a TT w/ built in MIDI as well as a music manager program.
