Clean VS Explicit Tracks
As a DJ, is it better to buy clean or explicit tracks…when you will be playing in a variety of settings from House Parties to Top 40 gigs.
I’m looking to best prepare myself for the future and any/all situations.

both? Do you plan to DJ at middle school dances or places where they would frown upon the dirty version of tracks? Typically when you join an mp3 pool (if you are a working DJ) then you will have the option to get both.
^ +1
This. It honestly depends on the people you are dj’ing for. Unless you’re dj’ing for middle schoolers, explicit is fine. If you’re old enough to get into a club, chances are you’re old enough to hear a few expletives.
Aah, only in America…
Here in Europe, I haven’t heard a “clean” track since my mom had MTV.
The ‘censor’ button is one quite nice feature of Serato when it comes to this … buy the dirty one then hit the button when required, dependent on your audience
i play a 13 - 17yrs night once a month, they go mad whenever theres an explicit track on, its like they shouldnt be hearing it but guess what… they are, and mum cant stop them, they love it lol
Get both, and the instrumental when possible. Never know when you might get a company or school event. If you only play in a club, don’t worry about the clean versions.
I pretty much stick to the explicit tracks because if I’m playing for middle schoolers I’m not going anywhere near those tracks anyway, clean or dirty. Most of the time the “clean” version leaves no ambiguity about what is being talked about and how. Bleeping out the word “bitches” in the lyrics “to a kid lookin up to me/life ain’t nothin but bitches and money” really doesn’t help a whole lot in my opinion. And more often than not when they do change the lyrics to the song significantly it’s a worse song (and the kids know the “dirty” lyrics anyway).
Corrupting the youth!
Everytime one plays a clean track, a baby seal is killed. Don’t do it, it’s cruel. And retarded too. Play the song or don’t, but bleeping out “offensive” words is the most annoying thing since Justin Bieber. And pretty useless too. As if kids suddenly aren’t going to hear the word “fuck” anymore (and so what if they do?).
Radio edits existed (and were annoying) long before Justin Bieber was spawned.
shrugs If you can’t play the tune as intended, don’t play the tune (IMO)
I mostly get clean just because I have a limited amount of downloads from my record pool. I don’t consider myself a top40 dj and if you think about most of the time when people are listening to these tracks it’s on top40 radio so they should pretty much be used to the radio edits.
Not sure what radio edits all of a sudden have got to do with this? A clean edit is a version without offensive words, a radio edit just a shorter version for people with a maximum attention span of 3 minutes..
^ I never really thought about the length of radio edits, what I meant was just songs that are censored for radio. At least here in Southern California where I live all the music on radio and TV is censored so I guess people are just more used to it around here.
A radio edit is a version edited for radio. Where the only issue is length, the only edit is for length. When the issue is also language, the edit includes language.
This has been truth for a long time. See also: “Let’s Get It Started” - Black Eyed Peas.
For my next trick, I’m going to teach my own grandmother to suck eggs.
I buy explicit all the time and i play them at wedding, pubs, underage gigs and clubs.
Like has been said play it the way its suposed to be played or don’t play it at all.
I think most clean songs sound retarded anyway.
NSFW!
“hey kids its borgore,
do you know whats hard core?”
borgore “me, shoving an elaphent up yo sistas back door”
<3 that track. i need a clean version for my little brothers birthday though
Man, Borgore is like a talentless EDM Eminem crossed with Bangs.
