According to the JBL JRX118SP manual (page 16: Mono sub with powered Mid/High), I should connect: Mixer to sub, sub to both K12 using one XLR cable only?
When they talk about a mixer, they are talking about a PA system mixer. Not a djing mixer. You need a lil bastard like this to run your powered speakers into and also to run your dj mixer into.
That one i posted is abit overkill but you get the drift. An amp could also come into play but Im not a fan as your speakers are already powered.
That setup will work fine. There was a bar that I used to dj at that had a jbl sub that you could connect your tops to. I found that using the jbl’s crossovers sounded OK, but one day I hooked up my balanced Minidsp 2x4 and set my own crossovers and was able to get a much cleaner, smoother response that could play louder before it would clip. If you want to get the most out of your system, I highly recommend getting a digital sound processor.
