Hey, so after being inspired by taking a trip to Vancouver and seeing all the unique buskers on the street it got me thinking. I think I’m going to plan a couple controllerism routines and take it to the street! I’ve got a vci-100 and an Lpd 8 and I’ll probably map a rock band guitar as well just for show.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a cheap, battery powered speaker or amp that could work on the streets? Or any tips or suggestions on how to impress the random people? I’ll be playing Funk and old classic rock remixes, tracks that people can relate to. Any tracks suggestions as well?
Whoop whoop!
Yeah some of my buddies in Van make quite a bit of cash just busking every couple of nights. One of them is a beatboxer/freestyler and he seems to do pretty well so why not DJing?
Check out this badboy .. runs on a car battery too
I’d toyed with the idea about 10 years back and I have busked in the past, just seriously have lotsa mates around you WILL get distracted and people WILL try to steal ur cash/gear/both
i’ve run 2 tapco thumps for about an hour and a half on a single car battery charge using a pretty small, simple inverter (dont remember the wattage on the inverter, but it cost about $40)
when running 1 speaker, it would last about 2.5 hours.
For maximum awesomeness get one of those tiny MIDI keyboards. Map it to Traktor’s Pitch setting so you can play across 2 octaves, one up, one down.
Find dance tune with a strong lead synth and a bit where you can grab the base note. Set a short hotcue loop here. Find a rock/funk tune with a strong hook and a nice drum break.
Play dance track.
When you want, jump into your hotcue loop. Play it like a synth on your keyboard. Play the melody from the rock/funk track.
Record it with the loop recorder.
Bring in the drum break from the rock/funk track.
When you are ready, cut the dance track and slam into a chorus of the rock/funk track.
