Cool FX combos/chains

Would be really interested to hear all the awesome FX combos/chains you guys know of. Any FX chains or just FX tutorials or articles will work too. I use Traktor, so Traktor oriented effects would be choice. Would be really appreciated for responses of any kind but would be awesome if you guys could reply in this manner. Thank you :thumbsup:

  1. FX Chain (Ex. Beatmasher+Lo-Fi+Reverb)
  2. A video of it being used.
  3. The time signature where the start of the FX chain is being used. (Ex. “At 0:48”)

I’ll start by asking a question about a specific video.

How/what did Farace do at 0:37 for that freeze/chop effect?

pretty easy to recreate. just a beatmasher and a delay freeze and that´s it.

he has the effects pre-mapped to the buttons.

armyofme4340 is a mapping guru (she helped Ean map the VCI-400 EGE) and she is super in depth with her mapping tutorials. check out her videos - http://www.youtube.com/user/armyofme4340/featured

When you say beatmasher+delay freeze you mean Beatmasher+Delay+Pause+Play? I will definitely have to check her out, thats cool that she helped Ean map the VCI. I’m looking to do a custom mapping on my Akai MPK Mini for FX & such. Thank you for the input man :+1:

You’ll see what delay freeze means when you get into the videos. It’s a pretty commonly mapped effect.

There’s a free toggle on delay.

Using it with gater can create some insanely nice effects. One thing to say I have effects not in chained mode instead I have my x1 controlling 3 and 4 an either my ns6 or total controll taking care of 1 and 2 which allows for some nice effects.

I know chained/group mode is great but I prefer ring able to adjust all parameters of the effects to create a more flowing effect instead of the normal chained effects which I find to be way to much glitch for the style I use them in.

Clearly that man needs more midi fighters… o.O Also, someone’s been taking lessons on how to touch a midi controller from Ean :wink:
Decent mix though - I liked his use of the vocal sample around 4:30.

I have a problem with people who accentuate button presses and knob turns in this way. It doesn’t make the mix more interesting. If there’s anything I’ll tell new DJs about effects it’s not to overuse them.

Effects complement your mix, not define it.

I think this was a video of him showing skill with controllers and effects, not an actual mix. He has mixes up on his website that arent chock full of FX. I was looking at this effect more as of a transition than something I will use every 30 seconds. I got the first mapping done on my MPK that tutorial was really easy the way armyofme4340 explained it. I am definitely going to check out her other tutorials, good find toontown!

Hi Stewe, is there a way of implementing you isolator mapping to other controllers say a Kontrol x1???

I believe somebody already did that mate. Can’t remember the name but guy came to my thread just to say thanks and he shared a vid and TSI for X1-Isolator based on my mapping. It was posted in DJTT mappings page a while ago! Off course I could map it in an X1 myself if I pack one but I all can say is wait for CMD MM-1 and get one because I’ll be releasing my Isolator mapping when everybody got CMD in their hands.
