Could I mix at a party gig with 320 kbps MP3 ?

Hi all !

My question is about the sound quality of an MP3 in 320 kbps between Wav with a good sound system.

I usualy mix in my bedroom, and I will start little party gig (100-200 pers.).

Actualy, I rip my CD into MP3 320 kbps; there is no difference in my bedroom with my sound system, but I don’t know if we can feel difference with a good sound system.

Don’t know if it’s better to keep wav file …

Thx for your comments !

Wavs and 320’s both sound awesome on big sytems mate. Dont go any lower than 320 with mp3’s tho

Isn’t 320 kind of the standard? I know some will only use .wav, but I think more use 320.

wavs are the best but take up 10x the room of a good 320 mp3. ok if you have the space but not so practical in my book. 320’s all the way

Hehe ok thx for these answers

320kbps is totally enough

320 is fine for all but the biggest systems. I wouldn’t worry about it in the slightest.

Also another advantage of mp3s is metadata - you can’t tag wavs.

[/quote]What he said, anything not 320 begins to suck at a club but there’s no need to use WAVs unless you are a kind of “paranoidaudiophile”.

I’m no geek but personally i buy a lot of music through itunes now and stick with the AAC 256 VBR codec rather than convert to mp3…

AAC is apperently a newer codec than mp3 and is better compressed.

meh

But a load of my music is till 320 mp3 and they are totally fine on a massive system

@MaxOne, yeah there’s better compression, but you gotta watch out with those VBR schemes, some CDJs (and other brands) are notorious for bad playback with VBR. 320 CBR is safe(r)

You could throw the party with lesser quality even, if people are stoned and wasted there not gonna be complainning about the quality of the music. Just my two cents

Although, more the more experienced people with sound quality - would 256 kbps, and 192 kbps be fine to play out with? Would people really know the difference

I’ved play legit tracks that I paid for that were @ 256 - 320 that sounded muddy. Just play the mp3’s even if their at 96 from hypemachine…no one can tell when everyone is drunk.

Just rock the party…people will remember more if you play great tunes and not worry that ur mp3s were low bitrate.

keep an eye on the track selection more than on quality and hifi-stuff (ok, don’t f**** it off totally).

adds more to your show!

GO FLAC OR GO HOME!

No seriously, though. 320 mp3 is fine.

Thank god someone said it. Love you man:smiley:

I use to play 128K MP3’s in a club from 2000 - 2003 when that was the standard, and never heard a complaint. You guys need to concentrate on playing good tracks instead of audio quality. Yes side by side there might be a slight difference so don’t beat juggle a 128K with a 320K, but c’mon now. Only losers that stand around at a club listening for audio quality instead of dancing with females will try to notice it. I think you can hear the difference much clearer on an expensive home hi-fi system.

no one who counts will care unless youre using a hifi system. which at a party - probably not going to be an issue.
on the topic of fidelity tho ive started collecting a decent amount of flac stuff, i wish flac was supported in more apps. right now the only thing i know that supports flac is ableton.

forget everything everyone else has said in this thread

if you play ONE song under 320kbps..people will leave and call you a loser and your dog will run away.

nah i’m playin it really doesn’t matter. people just wanna hear songs they like, no matter the quality.

what he said…

but again using this topic as a jump off point i wish flac was a commonly supported file format.

I’m sure I’ve been playing flac files in traktor?
I bought a few from Juno a couple of weeks ago…

I Wanted the wav as I intended to edit a track.

So does traktor play em - but store the bpm info locally and not in the tags?
