Credetiquette…?
Just finishing up a dubstep track featuring some Loleatta Holloway vocals. It’s definitely not a remix though. I was wondering if it would be considered poor etiquette to title the track me (feat. Lolleatta Holloway) - song name?
Is that something that collaborating artists agree to?
Would labeling the track as such come off as a cheap way to get people to listen to my stuff?
What are some other ways to give credit where credit is due?
I can’t really answer this, it might be an extra sensitive subject considering she died a week ago.
Props for using her vocals. If your the original producer, then I think that’s okay. If it’s more of a mashup or sampling then then list it as so.
Link?
As far as etiquette goes, I’d put a feat. in there for sure. Like - (feat. Loleatta Holloway)
what dvls said, your name ft sec artist usually refers to a consensual collaboration.

Right, but it’s not a consensual collaboration. The “feat.” credit is still justified?

I don’t know man. In my opinion, “featuring” (and it’s variations) imply a knowing collaboration between both people involved.
i’d go with “vs” or something

Thaaaat’s what I was looking for.
but that seems to imply a mashup to me.
Unless you get clearance from the label to use those samples, there’s not much more you can do.

I agree.
If somebody sampled a track I made, and claimed that their mix “featured” me without my consent, or even me knowing about it, I’d be hella pissed.

That’s exactly why I asked
