Beat Griding
for some of the newer reggae and dancehall traktor often get the first beat maker wrong so I usually have to correct it myself, however it is fairly easy with time and practice. As for the old stuff I will use grid makers at my selected mix points in order to keep the beat-grid accurate (Somewhat). I think you know as when is I do that mixing with reggae/dancehall is in most cases impossible, thus I have chosen to starting crafting my own intro edits (where possible) to make the job a little more seamless. below is one way of doing it
Modern DJ software has nearly every feature you could ever want, but very few (other than Torq) offer the ability to

I’m a full-time reggae guy, too. All genres. I used to just select, but now I want to get into mixing with Traktor once I get a different controller. On that note, I want to know if and how you guys beatgrid your tracks in Traktor because the auto beatgrid seems to always be off since I started loading and analyzing tracks. This is not exactly EDM or hip-hop, after all (although Dancehall may work more easily.) Good luck with dub, ha. Reggae’s not a real beat match genre, but it is nice to get some blends in.
So yes, I’m also watching this thread eagerly, and hope we can get some tech tips for mixing with Traktor in addition to artist/music opinions and advice.
One last thing: I’d like to request a Mad Zach reggae sound pack. It would be awesome to have some samples to layer over with the midi fighter, do some live dub stuff, even a quick bank with some horns, lasers, etc.

I’ve always enjoyed deep classic roots music and dub, but a guy from this very forum got me into modern roots dancehall via this mix :
I-Trees - Daga Det Vol 3 - reggae dancehall mix
Been really feeling Fantan Mojah and Richie Spice lately..
You would probably enjoy Tarrus Riley, Lutan Fyah, Chuck Fenda, Anthony B, Niyorah… Upbeat tunes with positive vibes.

Big up DJTT massive. I don’t beatgrid my tunes in Traktor, especially because a lot of the older stuff isn’t in perfect time. I just tend to spin in relative mode, drop hotcues on the 1, and manually beatmatch from there. I’m not a sync user anyway, especially because I switch between DVS & vinyl a lot during a gig.
Question for the selectors out there, how many of us spin dubplates?
I’m with you 100%, but a proper grid would be nicer to have correct tempos in your lists, and I figure would make it easier to play around with the remix decks.

Custom Edits of Classic Tracks in Ableton – Pt. 1
Definitely not impossible–just better done manually, like said above. (Maybe you’re implying EDM style beat-matching with sync.) Match the guitar/piano riff, cue up, blend. Insert some samples, pauses, other tricks, for added effect. The guy I-Trees linked to earlier in the thread did a nice job. Check Jah Warrior’s mix tapes, too.

Yeah, last.fm plays you a lot of those guys when you listen to similar artists radio for Fantan Mojah. Actually Richie Spice radio played me Chuck Fenda “Gash Dem” and I went looking for other people on the Confessions riddim, that’s when I found Fantan Mojah…
Very nice mix, Where do you go for music, i’m a member of the dj pool latinos unidos but a lot of your songs are not released on there.
Thanks
