David Guetta - Nothing but the Beat Movie?

David Guetta - Nothing but the Beat Movie?

I was only just linked to this…

Thoughts?

Looks interesting, I definitely will watch it.

Energy drink making a movie? Seems odd. Some cool profiles in there though, will watch it and hope its not as much arsekissing as in the trailer…

“I wanted to create a bridge between white people and black people”

Fuck me if Martin Luther King had said that we would all be taught it in school.
Who the hell does this guy think he is.

His ‘take’ on R&B is a far from what i consider R&B to be as it could be.

The phrase “reinventing the wheel” springs to mind.

This is like Take That saying they had invented boy band pop music… Hello… The Beatles.

All Guetta has done is made an electro/house album and got every big name in US R&B (so-called) to sing on it. That is it. That is all it is.
Its absoluetly full of massive hit songs but that does not make it groundbreaking or original.

Surprised at FatBoy Slim comparing what he and the other Big Beat guys did, which was actually pretty groundbreaking for that generation that missed out on the original funk or Breaks scene (no i dont mean that shitty Stanton Warriors type breaks grrr) to what Guetta has done.

Most of the songs on Guettas latest album are the same song with bits swapped around.
Calvin Harris is doing the same thing with less success although his single with Rihanna is the biggest on the Top40 dancefloors.

Post Script:
Dont get me wrong. Guetta is massive and his music, whilst not my thing, its not the worst around but puuuuurrrlease its hardly Sgt Peppers or Never Mind The Bollocks or Dark Side of The Moon or Nevermind or even Hot Fuss…

Although i do quite like that Commander song with Kelly Rowland:smiley:

Yeah. That was odd, quite the mission. Agree with your view on his take (phew) of RnB, and also, combining two essentially “black” music genres to bridge between white and black people? (I’d at least claim that house music is, at least historically quite “black”, no? Not an unfamiliar story of a thing going mainstream and becoming white…)

Its a joke, but i still think it will be an interesting watch

what a douche bag

I think r&b and house music are much better off separate.

“Hating is a waste of time, because it requires you to give a fuck about things that aren’t worth the fucks you’re giving.”

^+1

I dont believe anyone is “hating” in this thread except the guy that calls him a “douche” maybe . They are merely giving an opinion on something they have been asked to look at by the OP.

If Guetta hadn’t made that “black & white” quote i might not have posted but as he did i felt compelled because, and this might be the difference between us, I have an opinion. Im not hating cus i dont hate Guetta. I dont hate him at all.

If having and opinion that isn’t positive is now called “hating” then the internet has become a one dimensional place.

Forum=Discussion.

I dunno know.
I’m not so put off by the trailer now i’m back from work and can actually watch it. There were a lot of tongue and cheek, honest comments “…shoulders of giants” and snoop dogg’s come to mind that it (the trailer) at least hints at what the movie (documentary) aims to do: profile a high profile talent while they put their pants on like everyone else.
Based on some of the comments here I was expecting a self-absorbed pop star attempting to inject a social commentary into stadium-sized MDMA love fests.

did anyone else find it funny that Will.i.am claims to know house culture as if he has been in it since it’s dawn?

Hating implies that I’m jealous..which I’m really not.

Personally I loved Will.I.Am when they recorded songs like Where is the Love, Don’t Funk with My Heart and stuff with Sergio Mendes…

But since I know that Will.I.Am stole tracks, like from Boys Noize and from Adam Freeland I don’t take him and the whole BEP and other ones in that scene serious.

Here, in The Netherlands, you have a lot more douche bags who just want to get famous, even if that means betraying their friends. I know a lot of ‘shit’ about Afrojack, since I knew him even before he got famous… No, just give me the Dutch techno scene!

Oh, very offtopic… Hmm David Guetta is fake, just wants the money even if that means relying on his earlier successes (Love is Gone, I Got a Feeling???). Where is the time that producers just made music from their soul? Like Soul, R&B (not the shit from nowadays) and Funk…

Hmm, I was born too late (1991).

me too, man, me too. the “older” BEP stuff very enjoyable and it kinda had a unique sound to it that i really liked and had kind of an “indie” feeling to it if you want to call it that way. but that new stuff…i really wish they would have stayed with what they did before. it just seems like they noticed: “oh seems like EDM is going to be the next big thing, might as well jump on the bandwaggon”. very disappointing.
and Will.i.am stealing beats from Noize is indeed a very sad thing to do since he was once very innovative creating the sound of BEP.

Whatever dude. David Guetta clearly ended segregation. You’re just jealous.

true. y’all know his speech back at the march on washington called “F*** ME I’M FAMOUS”?

What I can see from Karlos Santos’ story, is that he clearly is NOT jealous. In fact, why would one be jealous? Yeah, maybe if you want to make tracks for an audience who expect a kind of music from you (dirty house shit…) and nowadays he even combines it with names like Snoop Dogg (!).

I’ll hope that Snoop Dogg is getting a lot of money from Guetta, because Snoop Dogg is an icon… Damn, his albums Doggystyle, Tha Doggfather are just albums which made the gangster rap how it is nowadays. I think he’s just making a fool out of himself. How can one sell his soul for this kind of music? Where are the days that Snoop was rapping about politics and African-American people in America, instead of making a girl Sweat?

Point is, David Guetta only makes music because he has to. I don’t hear him innovating (like I said earlier, Love is Gone - I Got a Feeling) and want to hear Guetta-like tracks like at the beginning of the 21st century, not this jack-in-the-box music…

And the discussion began with Guetta stating he’s bridging the gap between R&B and House. But you can not take that statement serious! House music began with black people, just like R&B. In fact, almost every good music genre began with black people.

So please tell us WHY you think Karlos Santos is jealous… I sure hope you’re not trolling.

this should be a good indicator of how sincere he is.
