Renoise can be tricky scary looking if you don’t have prior experience on trackers.

artistX
or planetCCRMA which is built on fedora

both free, both loaded with programs both very easy to use.

True but once you get the hang of entering notes via keyboard and realize its overall power (parameter control via MIDI, pattern sequencing, making your own instruments out of VST plugins, sample editor, line-in device to grab samples, etc.), you’ll be hard pressed to put it down.

Another good thing is that there is a pretty sizeable Linux community over on the Renoise forums. As I have said elsewhere, I am seriously considering putting my NI Maschine up for sale just because I love the workflow in Renoise and I can run it on as many machines as I like across all platforms. And, I can use pretty much any MIDI controller with it - currently using a LPD8 but just picked up a Kontrol X1 which I can’t wait to test with Renoise.

That’s true, and to add, my brother uses and loves Renoise.
