Deep Digging in a Specific Genre

Deep Digging in a Specific Genre

I just wanted to know what method you guys use to deep dig for tracks when the genre is very specific.

I have a gig that requested new disco sounding stuff. Example below. Beatport has it as “house” ??? and “nu disco” has become its own thing. It’s like 1% disco.

I tried the Song Radio and Artist Radio in Spotify and it’s no good. Pandora is better but way too slow for digging. As I mentioned before, Beatport is Beatport.

Is there a good way to find stuff in a pretty specific genre that works? Thanks.

First of all like all the times somebody Comes with a similar question: Why do you accept Gigs in a genre that you don’t know/can’t provide/are not playing?

Then it is so easy nowadays: Look for a Youtube Music channel called “Nu Disco” and let yourself inspire by the tonns of tracks being listed there. Once you have the Name of the Artist and the Name of the tracks you should find them for sale no?

I’m not looking fo nu-disco.

Actually more Juno nu-disco less Beatport nu-disco

Seems like Juno might be my best bet.

Check out: Hed Kandi Nu Disco sep 2012
Really really good album

Traxsource your best bet mate:

YouTube

Can confirm that youtube can sometimes indeed be an excellent digging platform, as long as you stay away from the versions that have music video’s and the most populair genres the suggestions are pretty good. Not that weird of course when you take into mind that they have a ridiculous amount of data to base these suggestions on and in my experience solid algorithms to do it.

Start down the rabbit hole that is italo disco on Youtube. Also, just look for podcasts by the producers and DJs you come across for more tunes.

How do you dig on YouTube?

By genre?

That’s my problem sometimes genres are different to different people.

Nu disco can be Lifelike (80s Disco), Poolside (Retro Disco), Giacca and Flores (Synth Bass House) or Shiba San (G House)

Just do a lot of listening. Start with a mix and search for the artists on it.

IMO the best period of Hed Kandi, it’s funny how music sources gain and lose their magic over time.

I thought music blogs were going to be the future but they really went lame.

Find a song that you know is the genre you’re looking for, then look at the recommendations. You can spend forever.

Find a label on beatport or traxsource that has a tune you know to be in the genre, then listen to everything on that label.

You should find plenty this way.

why dont you let me play the gig?

jezzus cripes…

Me and some Faze Action will blow the lid off that place…

Well your Problem seems not to be really true.

If this Music Style, you aren’t comfy with, is a request by your employer, then ask him what he expects, ask him for some Artist names.

You say “Sometimes Genres are different by different People”, well If I tag my mustard glass as “Strawberry Jelly” how will you realise it isn’t Jelly??? I guess in the worst case by tasting no??? It’s exactly the same with Music in Any Database you will explore (not only on Youtube) Classifications are so subjective.

You say you thought Music Forums would be the future and not so lame…well did you expect the People in here to prospect the Songs for you?

This guy gets it.

Faze action is great.

I have all that.

Juno is hilarious. Every genre top 50 (minimal tech, techno, funky house, deep house etc.) is disco.

I don’t have a problem DJing. I have a problem finding genres because every delivery system is retarded and can’t figure out what genres are.

It makes it fun to dig. I like it when you spend hours looking to find the gems.

I just wanted to know what workflow you guys used.

BTW they didn’t request all disco. Just some disco early. Which is always a nice boogie warm up before the house takes over,

Then I misunderstood you…sorry.
