I just wanted to know what method you guys use to deep dig for tracks when the genre is very specific.
I have a gig that requested new disco sounding stuff. Example below. Beatport has it as “house” ??? and “nu disco” has become its own thing. It’s like 1% disco.
I tried the Song Radio and Artist Radio in Spotify and it’s no good. Pandora is better but way too slow for digging. As I mentioned before, Beatport is Beatport.
Is there a good way to find stuff in a pretty specific genre that works? Thanks.
First of all like all the times somebody Comes with a similar question: Why do you accept Gigs in a genre that you don’t know/can’t provide/are not playing?
Then it is so easy nowadays: Look for a Youtube Music channel called “Nu Disco” and let yourself inspire by the tonns of tracks being listed there. Once you have the Name of the Artist and the Name of the tracks you should find them for sale no?
Can confirm that youtube can sometimes indeed be an excellent digging platform, as long as you stay away from the versions that have music video’s and the most populair genres the suggestions are pretty good. Not that weird of course when you take into mind that they have a ridiculous amount of data to base these suggestions on and in my experience solid algorithms to do it.
If this Music Style, you aren’t comfy with, is a request by your employer, then ask him what he expects, ask him for some Artist names.
You say “Sometimes Genres are different by different People”, well If I tag my mustard glass as “Strawberry Jelly” how will you realise it isn’t Jelly??? I guess in the worst case by tasting no??? It’s exactly the same with Music in Any Database you will explore (not only on Youtube) Classifications are so subjective.
You say you thought Music Forums would be the future and not so lame…well did you expect the People in here to prospect the Songs for you?
