Did you hate your VCI-100 when you first got it?

Ok, so i got everything all set up right with my brand new black VCI 100. Im running it with Traktor Pro,. First impressions, :disappointed:

It should be said that i have been using 1200’s, pio DJM, SSL,with Virtual DJ software. So much of this might be due to learning curve. But i feel like ive never mixed a record before in my life using this so far.

i do love the feel of how sturdy it is, and definitely know that this thing could withstand life on the road. But , it feels so miniature and condensed. Granted i wanted a unit that was portable, but this justs seems to small for my taste.

Did the VCI-100 take some time to grow on you for the Digital Vinyl Users? Or was it something you adored right out of the box? ( iknow it looks pretty, but do you love its functionality when you first got it.)

It took me a bit to adjust to the mappings and make it work like I wanted, but once I did that I was sold.

It took a slight adjustment to my DJ style, but that grew with time.

To me the vci-100 was a godsend, I was previously using cd’s & 1200s. Then I got a X-Session Pro and started doing alot of research cuz I wanted to upgrade within months. The first day when I got the VCI I was lost! But to be honest this website has helped me use the vci-100 to the max. Once you tweak the settings to your liking & come up with your own style…you’ll never look back. If I were you try looking for a Traktor 3 box for sale and give traktor 3 a shot.

BTW Why are you being a Jerk? j/k (I wanted to say that so bad when I saw ur name)

are you aiming to beat match manually on the vci?

beatmatch

What If he was beatmatching manually? Is there problems doing it that way?

It’s rough doing manual beatmatching on the VCI-100 as it is right now. Being the faders transmit on 127 steps, which does not divide equally into 80 steps (8 percent with 1 decimal) or 800 steps (2 decimals) or 1200 steps (12%) or on and on, it gets really difficult to accurately manually beatmatch.

Now, there are ways around it, but it just takes time and effort.

Being curious, what ways are around it, as in my previous posts i was thinking about the black edition of the vci-100 but i mix manually using my ear and ajust the tempo via pitch bending and faders etc, i mix that way on the 1200’s and cdj’s and most things.

Smallest pitch i have ever used was a numark dmc2, but the jogwheel was good enough to mix tight, so what options does it have against things like that?

Sorry to jump the thread btw:disappointed:

Sorry i was just born that way  Parents named me Joel Richard Kienitz, so my initials are JRK. Guess my parents didnt think much of me before i was born.

Well, what i have been doing in Virtual DJ is auto sync BPM, but i never cared if the grid was perfect, cause i always had my vinyl there to nudge fwd or bwkd if the timing was a bit off. Since i wont be using Time Codes, atleast for now in Traktor, i would say no to beatmatching manually.
I guess the secret in Traktor is make better beatgrids so they sync quite nicely, with out having to nudge.

I just got a Korg Nano Pad today as well, that i am gonna set up for Cue point juggles, so maybe this will help clear up some buttons on my VCI-100.

nudging the platters is doable in traktor with the vci100, it’s the precision of the pitch faders that is the constant issue if you are trying to beatmatch manually.

interesting, because of the whole 127 steps not diving equally over the pitch ranges.
So i am assuming most of you have the pitch faders assigned for other functions? How about an example?

I am used to beatmatch with the vestax picth faders, they are small but if you are gentle you won“t have problems. I don“t do it all the time just when I want to play with someone else or when synching with a TT. Also when I jump in after another“s dj set. But I have play complete sets just manually beatmatching with what the VCI gives you.

In TP you can adjust the presicion to 6% which is enough. On T3 only 8% but when mapping you can adjust little sensibility to the fader to make it easier.

Just need to be gentle. Plus you can use loops to manually beatmatch wich make it easier and faster. Just set a 4 bar loop, on the song you are mixing in, then cue the downbeat. make it start in synch with the other song and with practice you will have it beatmatch in less than 20 secs. This is going to be very easy for you if you are used to manual beatmatch.

It Was Love At First Site When I Got My Vci 100

didn’t like my VCI, the first 2 months i got it.. But after I jumped on the DJTT VCI-100SE wagon, my life just got better, and i smile more everyday

Yes I hated my vci when i first got because it didnt work with vista there are a few annoying things about it but I have worked my way around them. the only problem i have with it now is the cross fader is a bit loose & feels like crap compared with my djm400.

It’s not the Vestax I hate

Bought the VCI 100 with LE worked great I loved it. Use it for my internet show. I upgraded to Pro. Can’t get the damn thing to work at all for any kind of beat matching. Tried every TSI file I see on here.

I’m new to djing but I started off with turntables briefly learning to mix and beatmatch (not too well). I bought the VCI-100 half a year ago with the idea that it’ll solve all my beat matching problems and access to effects will give me ean-like abilities. It didn’t =-(.

The last two months, I’ve been appreciated it even more as I’ve further explored djing and the software. I’ve also learned to successfully beat grid and warp tracks which takes away the beat matching problem for now although I’d like to leran to do it manually.

I’ve learned to love and appreciate the vci-100 more than ever as I am exploring the mapping possibilities and the use of bome’s.

I think for people who are starting without any djing experience, like any other instrument, it’ll take time to get to know and love. For people like JesC who used the software and djed before, well you’ll just love it instantaneously.

Love mine!!! got it about 3 weeks ago, cant stop playing with it. The only thing i don’t like about the differences is how easy it is to just start mixing with decks but with teh vci there is some affort involved to get going. Plugging in soundcard hard drive booting laptop starting app etc ..

… other than that it frikkin rocks !!!

I really like mine, lol coming from only keyboard and mouse mixing it is a godsend. I agree though with what someone mentioned, that we should be using the pitch controls on the vci-100 for other stuff (in normal not fx mode on 1.7 djtt) what about reassigning them as line faders for volume control of decks c&d and then having a mod button reassign them to pitch temporarily?

Thanks for all the posts! and words of encouragement, cause basically it all boils down to a steeper learning curve, but one that is well worth the effort.

So True. For a seasoned DJ that is.

I love the VCI-100, so far I’ve had 3, my first one it was a v1.2 then upgrade to v1.3 plus the I added the overlay then I traded it for a macbook. Around the same time I was lucky enough to get a 1st edition VCI-100SE from SS714SS (thanks man). And I have a project VCI-100 I just got.

Bottom line is this piece of gear is very dope, you have to ā€œjailbreakā€ the vci-100 to get v1.3 working, and we really dont have too much info on v1.4. But I can promise you guys its going to be insane!
