OK, so I have been thinking about building a unit that will let me control traktor instead of just using my current setup of a USB keyboard custom mapped to my controls, I’m just struggling to find any information on the net as to what kind of chip and interface I would need to get myself started. I basically want the following:
Headphone cueing,
buttons for play, pause, loop, FX etc
crossfader
Input faders
Pitch control
EQ knobs
and obviously some way of connecting to my macbook.
Probably the easiest way to go, or something to base it on would be the midibox 64
http://www.midibox.org/dokuwiki/
Basically, you would need to build the core module which connects to your computer and from there you can use different modules to input up to 64 analogue inputs (faders and knobs), 64 digital inputs (buttons) and 64 digital outputs (LEDs and lights)
That offers lots of possibilities to build an awesome controller (:
Check out this:
This is a controller for traktor which a German guy is in the middle of building using the midibox modules and it looks like it is going to be a really good controller when it is finished
Haha yes, i’m not totally sure how he is going to get that to work and there is no room for it on his design. But still, whatever he does it should end up as a very nice controller.
Both of those videos i have come across before but i was not to interested in building a controller with platters so i did not look that deeply into it
