DJ-Contest set - Intro: “Fatboy Slim - Right here, Right now” and then?
I’m putting together a set for a local DJ-Contest this Saturday.
There was a nice loveparade-loveset (2008) by Digitalism where they started with the slow part of “Right here, right now” and then went within 1 minute into their track “Idealistic”.
I would love to do it similar, but without Idealistic as the 2nd track.
Now I’ve been looking in my collection for the last 2 hours for a good track but can’t find any. Baggy Bottom Boys by JOTS would be cool, but that track is for the climax.
Crookers , Machines Don’t Care , Switch , GRUM , AC Slater , Drop The Lime , Drums of Death , A1 Bassline , or even some Mustard Pimp should get them poppin .
hmm…dunno if it fits in mixes cause I needed advice for a gig.
I think I’ll stick to Idealistic till the break because it is very smooth and the styles fit.
Crookers and the stuff mentioned above is cool and will definately find it’s way into the set, but the melodic part of “right here, right now” is pretty calm and smooth, so dirty beats wouldn’t fit.
I mixed the 2 songs into each other to show you what I mean:
puked in mouth a lil from that one lol. Honestly practice DJing in general . Once you get in front of a crowd there’s a good chance your preplanned set will go out the window and your best attribute will be your mixing skills and not a preplanned set
That’s why ur the moderator and I’m the smart ass.
Anyhow, about this whole pre-planned thing… I’d seriously suggest that you have pieces of your set figured out (or pre-planned) before you get to the gig. Especially if you’re just starting out. (I’m assuming you are based on the fact that you asked this question.)
While I don’t have exactly in mind what I’m going to play, I always have my tracks arranged in a play list of stuff that works if I just wanted to play straight down the list. I like to organize by tone, energy, genre, key and tempo. Then if I feel like skipping around I do so when I’m there. If you do this, you’ll spend way less time searching and cueing tracks and more time doing cool shit that you should be doing as a Digital DJ. You have tons of new stuff to play with in Traktor… and even more stuff in Traktor Pro (but I wouldn’t know about that yet).
