Heading to new york next week staying in manhatton, anyone recomend good shops for midi controllers etc
You can try the big name stores like Guitar Center, Musicians Friend or BH Photo and Video.
If your paying cash, you can go to Canal St. & Broadway, there are a few small DJ stores there that will give you good deals. My fave is Canal HiFi, heres the website:

you should also check out turntable lab
they have stores in NY and LA. i’ve known them since they started their company. a bit like the DJTT dj equipment, cool guys, good prices, and good selection.
I have a buddy with a shop…he gives great deals on all equipment and is an authorized dealer of many brands. He sells to a lot of clubs and bars and can get any gear you need. PM me if you are interested in his info.
