Don’t you hate it when you just figured out the perfect moniker for yourself, and find out that either it’s insanely popular as a name in music, or that it’s taken by someone famous?
I just realized today that my grandfather always used to call me “Bones” (still not sure why, he was usually a 6 pack or so in whenever I saw him ) but DJ Bones is taken by like 100 people, and djbones.com is taken too (by a photographer??? doesn’t say DJ in the page, doesn’t say “bones” in the page…whatevz)
I’ll stick to what I have for now, but it doesn’t quite feel like me - feels like a cool name I get to go by online. I think I might be embarrassed to say it out loud to someone if they asked me… lol…
Who cares if its taken?? If its what YOU like and it means somethong close to you who cares!! If ur known as bones dont let someone else named that stop you! Thats my opinion lol
just use it. who cares..? if theres 10 other dj bones in philly consider something else. but if you’re the only one in your area with the name its not gonna matter a shit.
you could always just put your real name in front of bones eg. johnny bones
There was a d&b dj in the UK taking off going by the same name, that and the fact that I wanted to be a bit more mature by name made me decide to switch name.
Found out someone else had my DJ name about a year after I started using it. SC/FB dates imply that I had the name first, but neither of us are blowing up so I think there’s room for two.
I’m pretty sure there are many "mr stifffy"s out there but it doesn’t really phase me, people that know me, know me as Steven I hate being called mr stifffy it sounds cheesy but it’s a nickname that stuck when I was like 14 so I don’t think it’s going anywhere
I feel you. All my life i have been called stiffy. My last name is Tiffin, And my elementary school/highschool/college/job all use(d) first initial, last name…stiffin. its kinda funny though.
on topic, I was surprised nobody has used Dripstep, so i havent had to change my name.
L273315p3aK might work too, but most fans wouldn’t know how to spell it properly when they get to their computer. I kind of like djrtfm it looks good in writing and said aloud “are tee eff em” is memorable enough since it kind of sounds like a radio station…
From 1991 to 1999 I was known as DJ T-Love. But I ended doing my gigs and focused on my IT career. Since then someone took my name in the area, so if I were to ever go pro again I would go as ParisCreative.
I like the new name more than my old name. Old names seems a bit dated and cheesy.
My mom gave me my DJ name (Delay) when I was 14 years old because of my ADHD/ADD and my delayed response time to everyone’s questions. It wasn’t until recently that I noticed a few others (in Europe if remember correctly) were using the name as well. The other dudes are in a completely different country and play completely different types of music than I do so I didn’t worry about.
If you find a name that speaks to you then grab it. DJing is huge and someone else is bound to pick the same name you’ve got unless it’s pretty unique. If you’re more of a Hip Hop/Turntablist DJ like myself and end up with the same name as someone else you could always battle them for it .
Haha what got you the name stifffy at age 14? Embarrassing moment with large breasted maths teacher was it? “Er Steven please come to the front and show everyone how you found the answer!” “no please miss don’t make me stand up”
