I’ve been tinkering with this lately, and come up with some ‘interesting’ results, and found it more flexible than ableton - once i got used to the layout.
only problem i’ve found is the extra prep work, and some loss to traktors flexibility shrug
planning on getting a mix uploaded at some point, and some kind of blog post/detailed thread in a couple of weeks.
Often thought about giving this a go too. The prep work would be huge. You would need to make loops of everything you wanted to use before hand. Then there is trying to make a fluid mapping.
Keep us posted with your progress though.
Personally I’ve never understood why people would want to DJ with ableton and clips but this seems to have a little more potential. Seems like the kind of thing you would do just for the sake of doing though.
I have messed about gooft…playing with the samples provided and had a decent 30min or so session of playing tech…with a beat looped in the Track Deck A and another track looped in the deck B. Then dropping samples (one hits and loops) in over the top while transferring to and from A and B.
Adding a Delay FXed scratch over it too.
I can see this working out well…but as you all have said…PREP!
I will try something with sample decks C/D and a iPad too…
I’m thinking of build something like the korg kaoss pad FXs, “sintesizers”, white noises, flanger/phaser combinations.
It really fits better with psytrance if we incorporate these FX in other decks then use it massivelly over the tracks (that are alredy produced with lots of FX).
I don’t see myself using instant gratification map with psytrance
I mean…i have not used mine all that much and am sure its awesome tool the way Beardy uses etc, but i would rather use TSP’s when playing. Much more fun, to me anyway.
Thought i found a quick way round prep… sample packs. Loops are there, BUT have to sort messed up grids/bpm reads
Got a fairly fluid vci map for using it, and a keyboard map for creating/fine tuning samples from traktor library. Enjoying the spontaneous jamming, but without any known tunes in there, it sounds a bit self indulgent
I’m not saying anyone is wrong, as there are a lot of ways to do things.
But what could possibly make doing something like this in Traktor better/easier/etc. than doing it in Ableton Live? I mean…that’s what Ableton was made for.
